Space Empires is kicking my computers butt. Please help.

My Computer:
Intel (R)
Pentium (R) 4 CPU 2.4GHz
2.39GHz, 512MB of RAM
ATI Radeon 9200 Series
22.2GB/37.2GB of Hard Drive used

Alright. My story goes like this. The game I am trying to play is Space Empires V. I downloaded it and installed it using Steam (it's patched to 1.71). I started it up with no problems. I clicked tutorial and it takes forever to load. After it's done loading it informs me that my virtual memory has been used up. I doubled the size of virtual memory and it still didn't help. The game is unplayable at this point. I can't do anything and it takes about 30 minutes to shut the program down(even then my computer is pretty much froze). I've had WoW, Counter Strike Source, Warcraft 3, and Medieval II run on this computer with little problem. Medieval II, I couldn't actually get into fighting battles but I could do everything fine on the big map.

en lire plus

SE VI Compatible with DirectX 10.x & Vista 32/64 ?

Hi esteemed developers!!

I know its been fully documented about the current issues with Microsoft Windows Vista and SE-V. As a solution to my issue, I simply created a 10GB partition, loaded Windows XP Pro and created a dual-boot using Easy BCD just so I can play my favorite game without any mouse or FPS issues... problem solved...

However, I was wondering if any thought has been put forward into your presumably next release of Space Empires (SE VI??) with regards to the Vista compatibility and the slow FPS/mouse issues? I would be very interested to know if it has at least been addressed with regards to the new game, and if so great- I realize there isn't a time table that I am aware of but the idea that it is being worked on and having that issue fixed is a cause for celebration if true.

en lire plus

Low FPS, laggy mouse movement

Very strange things happen here,

I have an Acer5920G with 8600GT (512MB) and 2Gigs of Ram and using WinXP home.

FPS is 50 at the start of the game,
it drops to 25 for any menu i open,
then it drops to further 17 and 11 for any additional menu opened respectively.
when i close all menus, it doesnt raise back to 50 but can only make it to 25 FPS.

I read all related articles here, (seems a very common issue) disabled Clear type fonts, turned off all running processes in background, changed resolution and even tried running the game in 16bit color. The performance just slightly improves but it is still annoying and totally ruins my nerves.

en lire plus

sorry if this has been asked before, but i got my new laptop a few weeks ago, and SE:V was installed and was working perfectly, Then this morning when i tried to play it, it would come up on the task bar at the bottom but the game then crashed my laptop, have gone through everything on my laptop's troubleshoot, and have uninstalled and reinstalled the game countless times and still nothing...

please help, i love this game and i don't want to stop playing it...

Turn processing lockup in ground combat in TCP/IP multiplayer

Hi, me and my brother are playing a Simultaneous TCP/IP game on separate machines (both of us are using the Steam version of SEV v1.71, clean installs with no mods) over a LAN. We have run into a number of problems that we could work around until now, where during end of turn processing on the host, in combat (from the logs, it looks like ground combat), the game freezes. I have (I think) a log file, the save didnt get corrupted in any way, and we seem to be able to reproduce the bug whenever we need. What I would like to know is, what is the best way, if any, to help MM get the bug fixed?

en lire plus

Problem with combat/simulator rendering

I just started a full tech game and finished creating all the ship designs that I could possibly think of (I think that puts it around 60), but I want to test them in the simulator before using resources to build them. The regular ship pics show up in the design window just fine, but when I go into the simulator, they disappear, replaced by a random assortment of magenta horizontal lines and race pics (I don't want a ship shaped like a Norak). What's worse, I can't place the ships beforehand, because they don't show up in the combat screen, and when I do actually fight, I can't launch specific units because the game crashes with 'Access violations.' And any lingering graphics problems persist until I close the game, at which point it complains about another Access violation. Really frustrating.

en lire plus

version upgrade 1.71

I got automatically updated to version 1.71 and i'm playing a game in 1.66. Does this make a difference.

I'll answer my own question- it must do as i get the error "the data files currently being used do not match the data files that were used when this game was started."

Surely I must be able to play an older version game when i get a newer version? (I had no choice on the install steam did it for me!
