Now how on Earth do you do this? |
Hey,
Just started playing the game, so forgive me if this question is a little dense - but I've wasted a couple of hours on this, and would like to think it's not because I'm a _total_ idiot!
I was playing around with the cheat codes to learn all the technology in the game (I HATE this tech layout, but anyways).
Well, eventually I created the Ring Wolrd Placement component (and later the planet one).
The ring world component says that it requires 10,000kT of Gravity Plating and Hyper-Dense cables.
No problem, except for one thing:
Each component of these weighs 2,000kT, which becomes a serious problem, becuase I can't find a single ship design that will carry that load!
The highest load I can find is one which is about 1,500kT or so (and on the balance MOD it's 1,750kT).
What the HELL am I missing?
Going through the data files, I notice that there's a formula that says the size a ship can carry increases every level it's researched, but all my ships are on the max level.
Please can someone enlighten me here? I'd appreciate any feedback...
thanks!
Paul
to clarify his answer
you don't need all the grav plating or cable in a single hull... you just need that many (10 of each for sphere 5 of each for ring) in the same sector when you give the create X world command. what I often do is just make baseships with 1 cable or plating each and one with the main generator for the type I want then send em as a group up to the star. (this allows me to use a group of planetary construction yards which are as much as twice as fast as spaceyards in the stock game)
that would mean I need 21 total baseships to make a single sphereworld (11 for a ringworld)

Baseships & Battle Stations.
Baseships & Battle Stations. Create special designs of battle station & base ship; the base ship will carry the placement generator (apparently it needs movement). The battle stations will each carry as much of the raw material as needed (gravity plating, cables, etc). Use a construction yard ship to build the battle statins on top of a star (in a single star system, not a binary or trinary).
In other words - build the necessary materials in place.
Hope that helps ya
