Emissive Armor Still not working in Demo

Soumis par Kenquinn le Sam, 2006-10-28 18:32
Project:Space Empires V
Version:1.08-Demo
Component:Code
Category:bug
Priority:normal
Assigned:Unassigned
Status:closed

Description

I just downloaded the new version of the SEV demo and tested Emissive Armor to see if the bug was really fixed. But to my surprise it is still not reducing damage. I tried attacking a Base Ship with 1200kt of damage reduction and attacked with a fighter with a max level anti proton cannon which does about 500 damage. Damage is taken from the armor points even though it should not take any damage because of the Emissive Armor my Base Ship has.

Does Emissive Armor work in the retail version?

If I recall right, each

If I recall right, each piece of Emissive armor negates only a set amount of damage; Lets say level 1 Emissive negates 20kt damage, you have 1200kt worth of protection with this armor - a weapon hits for 500kt of damage - that means that armor will be destroyed that the damage overrides (21kt of damage / armor part until the 500kt is distributed). Some pieces of armor that did not get more than 20kt of damage will negate that damage and you will have more armor survive a fight than if using standard Armor.

Does that make sense? I believe that that is the way it works.

Anyone feel free to correct me if I am thinking wrongly.

Emissive Armor

Soumis par Kenquinn le Sam, 2006-10-28 18:53

So what your saying is only the armor components that are hit reduce the damage. So if the attack only hits 3 separate armor components, the other emissive armor components don’t have any effect on damage done by the attack?

I am pretty sure that is the

Soumis par carlosjuero le Sam, 2006-10-28 18:58

I am pretty sure that is the way it works. The best way to check would be to create a ship with 2 parts of Emissive armor and a ship with enough weaponry to do less than the max protection of the armor (so say if it is like my example and each piece provites 20kt worth of protection, hit it with something that does less than 40kt of damage). If you still have 1 armor piece left afterwards then I am correct, if not then I am sure someone else here on the boards will pipe up soon.

It appears to sort of work

Soumis par Kenquinn le Sam, 2006-10-28 21:55

I used a Dreadnaught with 30 level 100 Emissive armor. One piece of emissive armor should absorb any damage of 50 or less according to the tech listing. If you look at the ability tab of the ship it says it should negate any damage of 1500 or less. I tried attacking the dreadnaught with a level 1 depleted uranium cannon which does 15 damage and it fired till it was out of ammunition ad had not done a point of damage. But when I tried attacking the dreadnaught with a level 100 Depleted Uranium Cannon which does 515 damage it took out two pieces of Emissive Armor even thought two pieces of level 100 armor have a combined total of 590 armor points. I also did the same test as with the depleted uranium cannon with a Level 1 Capital Ship Missile which does 60 damage. The missile did exactly 60 damage to the armor point total of the ship. So as far as I can tell all that emissive armor does right now is negate any damage equal or less then the amount in the component’s description. Even if you have multiple pieces.

Second Interpretation

Soumis par Kenquinn le Dim, 2006-10-29 18:24

Carlosjuero, I found a second interpretation of what you said and I want to double check I interpreted it correctly. Lets say a ship has two pieces of emissive armor. That negate damage of 50 or lower and give 60 armor points each. If the ship is attack by weapon doing 100 damage it will destroy the first pieces of emissive armor and then the second piece of armor does not take any damage because the damage carried over to the next piece of armor is less then the amount it absorbs?

Emissive in SE:IV and Starfury

Soumis par Thy Reaper le Dim, 2006-10-29 18:33

In SE:IV, emissive armor reduced damage by the amount on a single piece of emissive armor, so 50 point absorbtion would take 70 damage down to 20.

I prefered how it worked in Star Fury, however. Emissive armor in that game reduced damage by a certain perctange, rather than an amount. Seemed less buggy.

Kenquinnn - That sounds

Soumis par carlosjuero le Dim, 2006-10-29 18:39

Kenquinnn -

That sounds about right - it does it in sequential order I am thinking. Any damage exceeding the negating ability automatically is applied to the armor strength and then carried over to the other pieces until all damage is dealth out.
