Setting up new strategy |
Hey, guys. I'm new here. I've been playing SE for quite some time, and I'm really liking SE5.
So here's my problem: I'm researching Point Defense, and now I got fighters, too. I'm testing in the space simulator, and no matter what strategy I try (and I made one that sets fighters at the top of the targetting list), my point defense does't fire at them unless I manually set it. So how do I go about doing this? They target missiles just fine, but I want full PD ships to take care of any small incoming threat.
PD := Direct Fire
yes it works to change your PD to direct fire instead of point-defense in the components.txt file. I think as long as you don't remove the ability of point defense that it will still ALSO target seekers as well... those PD blasters are awesome hehe bomblets stink bad everything else is in between.
with just 2 meson PD's frigates/destroyers can hold off massive numbers of fighters (seems fighters get the hull size to hit penalty and really have a hard time hitting them, and if you put a scattering and/or stealth armor on the frigate fighters will rarely hit at all hehe.)
I've had a single maxtech destroyer take down 22 maxtech fighters without a scratch
*EDIT* that is after I modded my PD's to direct fire.
PD vs Seekers is the true
PD vs Seekers is the true test. Someone needs to simulate a loaded missile ship vs a modded PD ship to see if all the PD's fire at the first seeker or not.

sorry to say
Your lord and master (below Foamy) LordHavoc
PD still wastes it's load on the first seeker :/

idea
Someone posted a possible workaround, that if you change the Weapon Type under the Components.txt file to "direct fire" instead of "point-defense" that will work. I'm hoping that means it will automatically target fighters as well as missiles. It won't try to hit anything bigger than a fighter (if you are worried about that) because the restrictions for targets are set and you don't change that part. I did the change but haven't had a chance to see it in action yet.
