Oo oo I hope this is finally THE 4x game.

Soumis par modulus le Lun, 2006-10-23 12:45 Space Empires V General

Just watned to say hi as a new owner of SEV... been waiting on this one for a while. I hope to get to know the game and then pwn all of you all in multiplayer games soon! All the bravado aside, 4X is my favorite style game, which is not a good thing in the current market, and after MOO3 failed miserably I thought loading old versions of Stars! was my only hope.

SEIV was a great game so I'm really looking forward to kicking the tires on this one, though it sounds like a cpl of patches will be needed before its 100% ready for full games.

Question I do have, has anyone played the game with no warp points? The only thing I liked about Stars! over SEIV was the long range radar and open travel beween systems (with stealth), the spacial feel of the galactic map was really fun to use. Can you do this sort of thing in SEV or does it take too long to travel from star to star wo WPs?

Nope. Can't do it in Space Empires

The concept of star systems connected by warp points is a central point of the game.

Yes, there is the option to turn off warp points. But all that does is force you to research the necessary technology to create your own warp points before you can go anywhere. I doubt that's what you are looking for. I assume you are looking for an open map like the Master of Orion series?

Oh well

Actually Stars! comes to mind most, it was really fun from a strategic point of view to get you radar stations set up and strong coverage to protect against stealth and such.

Oh well, there are obviously enough really awesome strengths to the SE series to be able to overlook this and have fun Smiling. Can't wait to get further into the game.

Scanning needed in SEIV

In SEIV, you could see everything in a system. But with SEV, you have limited sight and "fog of war". That means you still may want to build sensor satellites so you can see what is going on within a system. Granted, it's not the same as trying to see the entire galaxy. Additionally, with well-defined choke points at the warp points, you have lots less ground to cover. Still, it's a new feature for SEV and one that I'm liking so far.
