Things I would like to see again!

Soumis par PIGKiller le Lun, 2006-10-23 08:39 Space Empires V General

First off let me say that I am enjoying the game thoroughly despite the bugs that everyone else has been reporting. Yes they affected me also but I am just happy the game is finally out and I can play it. It looks awesome and the improvements make it look and feel awesome. That said! I wish that some of the things that I loved about SEIV that I felt made it work GREAT were still included in SEV. First that map, being able to look at the map and see systems colored as the controlling race or showing a disputed system made strategic planning for future campaigns so much easier. Now I can’t even tell where my borders are let alone my enemies. I looked around for all kind of map options but I must have missed it if it is there. If it is someone let me know, if it isn’t can we put it back in please. Second, upgrading multiple ships in SEIV was easy you could click on several of the same class and upgrade them in one shot, now you have to go and individually upgrade each one. Once again if there is an option I am missing please direct me to it and I’ll go back to my hole, but if it is not here can we put that back in also. Third, the ability to claim and un-claim systems by just clicking on the map, I have tried it but it doesn’t seem to work and some systems I just don’t want. I am sure there are little things that are bugging everyone but I feel that these three things would definitely help the flow of the game from a planning point of view. Once again I am not complaining! I am merely offering an observation from a player’s point of view. I have loved the entire SE series since I started playing it 8 years ago and I am enjoying it still. Sorry for the long post.

Mass Retrofit vs. Limited Repair...

Soumis par raynor le Lun, 2006-10-23 12:53

I agree. I really miss being able to select several ships at a time to retrofit all of them at once. However, now that the Space Yard only repairs a certain tonnage of components per turn, it is probably a good idea to just retrofit one or two ships a turn. It's a new way of doing things. But I really like that the Space Yard and/or Repair Bay can only repair a certain tonnage of components each turn. I think it is more realistic.

The limited amount of

The limited amount of repairs per turn was the same in SEIV, but you could easily get around that by having lots of repair bays/space yards in the same sector. The same goes for SEV.

So the mass retrofit is really sorely missed. I hope 'a' can bring it back in a future patch.

SEIV limited by # comps vs. SEV limited by tonnage

Soumis par raynor le Lun, 2006-10-23 13:22

That's a pretty significant difference...

The point I was trying to

Soumis par LordHavoc le Lun, 2006-10-23 13:37

The point I was trying to make was that you can still do mass refits if you had a lot of repair bays in the same sector.

I used to do it all the time. I even had repair bays on my supply ships so that I could refit in mid space. (with one builder ship present that is.)

Anyway, check the shipset i'm working on in the SEV mod section.

Repair Bays - Good

Soumis par Robert le Lun, 2006-10-23 17:29

In SEIV, I also had BC's and BB's specifically geared to doing repairs in space or upgrades at a planet.

Typically 3 bays to a BC and 4 in a Battleship.

Tonnage vs components may make it a bit different, but I think the basic idea should still fly.

Mass Refits

Have you tried selecting multiple identicle ships? I haven't had a chacne to check, but I think that works fine...

Things I would like to see again

Soumis par PIGKiller le Mar, 2006-10-24 07:02

Yeah! There is no way to do multiple ship upgrades. But my main point is that I would like to see several of the bells and whistles that made SEIV work so great. Can we get them back in there?
