Most interesting demo bug found yet...

Soumis par LordHavoc le Dim, 2006-09-24 12:32 Space Empires V General

Well there I was, mucking around with the simulator testing all the different weapons I researched when something odd was happening. Having made good tests with gravity hellbore and anti matter torpedo, i was moving on to the null space projector.

My 3 cruisers were busy shooting at the baseship target i created until i noticed it wasn't shooting back. I click on it to find that all that was left of the station was it's armour Sticking out tongue All the structure was destroyed, but all the armour was still 100% intact. My cruiser's hadn't noticed and continued to offload salvo after salvo of weapons fire into the now hollowed out shell of the baseship.

So i'm gonna start off this thread, report the most interesting bug found so far in the demo. Winner gets a cookie

Skip Armor Bug

Soumis par Captain Kwok le Dim, 2006-09-24 13:22

Nah. This is just the "skip armor (& shields)" damage type bug. Once there is no other structure left, the weapon will do damage to the remaining armor.

I think a bug where ground combat takes place on an enemy transport is much better than this bug.

Hmm, well i've google

Soumis par LordHavoc le Dim, 2006-09-24 14:12

Hmm, well i've google video'd it. And turned it into a big blur Sticking out tongue
But if you look carefully at the 'red smudge' where the mouse points for most of the vid, you'll notice that it stops changing and you can just about make out the 0. The armour doesn't drop and the cruisers carry on attacking.

See...empty hull.

Oops Typo

Soumis par Captain Kwok le Dim, 2006-09-24 14:58

Sorry. There was a typo in my post. I had meant to say that the armor will be undamaged since the skip armor damage type will bypass all armor types. Anyways it's a known issue.

I'm interested in seeing

Soumis par LordHavoc le Dim, 2006-09-24 15:03

I'm interested in seeing your ground attack on a transport bug. Get it fraps'd and stuffed onto google/youtube

Oh, and dont forget to compress the audio and video so you don't end up with a 1/2 gb file

Maybe we could have a "Known Bugs/Issues" sticky so that we don't waste so much debugging effort.

P.S. This forum BBS software needs some work.

Fleet Supply Bug

Soumis par Kagesh le Dim, 2006-09-24 19:24

I've been playing the demo and I've noticed that fleets use supplies a lot faster than single ships. An example, in my current game I have a fleet of 14 ships with a full supply of 123K supply points. The fleet moves one turn of 14 and its supply points are down to 17,320, that's a loss of 84% of its supply points on one turn of movement. It doesn't have enough supplies to get back to base!

I had a very nasty

Soumis par Skynet le Lun, 2006-09-25 01:34

I had a very nasty intelligence bug in my last game.
I was lazy researching and building up my own intel agency and so had some of my research projects sabotaged by an enemy. Unfortunately, that not only removed all points spent so far on that tech area, it also reset the amount of research points needed to get this specific tech to an insane value. To speak in numbers: I had tl 3 in light-medium hull construction which was shown to cost 32.000rp to improve. Using the slider it turned out, though, that at 100% research (~ 75k rp at the time) it would have taken me 13.1 years to conduct this research - getting to lvl3 destroyers would suddenly cost me around 10mil research points.

Fleet Bug with Supply...

Soumis par Captain Kwok le Lun, 2006-09-25 05:46

There's a supply bug with fleets in the demo - the more ships you add the worse it will get. It's been addressed post-demo...

Intel Bug...

Soumis par Captain Kwok le Lun, 2006-09-25 05:48

The intel bug is caused by how the project works. It deletes 10M points from the project which not only clears the project to 0, but adds ~10M to its cost... and hence the problem.

I have posted modified intel/events scripts at SpaceEmpires.net that are a bit friendlier...

Bug List

Soumis par tmcc le Lun, 2006-09-25 11:26

Kwok, is there a list of known bugs so that we can stop reporting them over and over? Also is there a list of those bugs that are fixed in the full release version so we can stop griping about those?

A list could help

Soumis par Captain Kwok le Lun, 2006-09-25 11:48

I have my own list as well as others generated by testers, but only MM has a compiled list of all known reported bugs. I do try and pass on all the bugs you guys find that I haven't seen in my own reports.

There's been a number of demo issues that are already resolved and if someone posted a list I could probably comment on ones that have been addressed.

But to be safe, keep posting bugs you find.

Capn Kwok, am i right in

Soumis par LordHavoc le Lun, 2006-09-25 12:33

Capn Kwok, am i right in thinking that some of the bugs we're seeing in the demo haven't been seen in the development up until this point...kind of like an open beta scenario?

Not really, most bugs I've

Soumis par Captain Kwok le Lun, 2006-09-25 14:12

Not really, most bugs I've seen reported were already known and reported at some point or another. A few of the more obscure ones maybe as they occur very rarely. Also the demo build does seems more prone to RCEs then any of the builds around it.

Updated Demo

Soumis par Kagesh le Lun, 2006-09-25 14:37

Will there be an updated Demo. My impressions of the current demo leave me somewhat disappointed with SE5 and I'm starting to fall off the fence towards not buying SE5. IMHO, SE4 was a lot easier and quicker to play.
