SEV seems far too unstable |
Its holding at about 1/2 of the games of SEV demo i try to play cant be finished due to a crash, a lock-up, or a never ending turn.
I can live with the numerous little bugs ,but not being able to finish a game is unacceptable
I think there is a
I think there is a conspiracy between the crashing and autosave. It's like it knows you've not saved or something. Now i've turned auto save on i've not had 1 crash.
Hmm, i'm not so sure. I've
Hmm, i'm not so sure. I've have a fair few fights at warp points and have survived to tell the tale (not crashed). Good deductive reasoning though. You could try confirming it by having autosave set to every turn. That way you could load to the exact point prior to it crashing and re-trying the actions you believe to cause the crash.
You're lord and master (below foamy) LordHavoc

It's very annoying so far and I've gone to autosave each turn as I don't know when it'll get stuck on processing player's turns. And that happens when no combat is taking place either.
@Kwok I realize you're not the developer but "but I'm sure many problems with be resolved in time" is a very ambiguous statement. I'm sure its true that it will get fixed, but when is that time? At release? In a month? 6 months? Intermittent crashes and lockups are killers and can be hard to track down.

Likely a patch at release and a few afterwards
Well, a number of bugs in the demo have already been corrected in the latest betas including some of the ones that have been posted here. I've been able to play over 100 turns this weekend without a single crash or lockup.
If the support is half of what it was for SE:IV, I'd expect that most of the serious bugs will be taken care of in 6 months. Hardware related bugs might take a little bit longer to figure out...

The only way I can play SE5
The only way I can play SE5 apparently is at minimum settings. Anything else and the mouse pointer is so slow it's unplayable. And here are my 'puter specs:
P4 2.4ghz
512mb RAM
GF4 Ti4200 128mb
Windows XP SP2, freshly defragged
It runs Q3 at max settings without flinching and Q4 very well despite the system's age. But we're talking about a turn-based strategy game, not a full-blown 3D game... o_O
I'd love to see how it acts on the "recommended system"...
Try not. Do. Or do not. There is no try.

Try SAFE for video memory
Try using SAFE for video memory.
I have similar specs and run fine so I think it's something other than your computer's speed.

E-mail it!
Be sure to email the saved game to MM with a description of your findings....

Drivers
Don't forget to check your drivers, those can cause huge issues with video cards.

Crashes suck, but can be useful...
It's unfortunate, but I'm sure many problems with be resolved in time. The best help you can give is to see if you can tell what is the source of the crash. That will help eliminate it.
