Colonization tech is to cheap. |
First of all, I would like to say that I am surprised with the game, things like customizable layouts and shift pressing inship designing make things a lot of easier.
For future gameplay improvement I have a few suggestions.
-Rock, Ice and Gas colonization techs are incredbly cheap and easy to get, think about it, you take a really long time to get to ship space yards and remote mining, and you can get to far easier, personaly I prefer to research those techs ASAP. I strongly think the actual game engine made 400k for this techs to few.
More coming soon
I always play on High Cost
I always play on High Cost for research, but i see your point, it is way too easy to get new colony types, they should be an incredible endevor.
I agree. They are too cheap.
I agree. In SEIV, it was 500,000. In SEV, it is now just 200,000. It is cheaper to get BOTH of the 'other' colonization techs than it is to put a spaceyard in a space station. To me, that just doesn't make any sense at all.
Yes, that is one of the
Yes, that is one of the first things I noticed. I think that 200k is way to little, unless you need more then tech lvl 1 to colonize other planets.
Just trade for it
If you sign a treaty with an empire that has a different colony than you, you get it automatically.

Um...
I'm sorry, but that doesn't sound right. You'd have to have a tech-sharing agreement for that to work, and I don't think you'd like that.

Early game makes this very usefull
Are you serious? I LOVE IT, not just like it. I do a tech agreement that says technologies 4 generations old, and you auto-matically get their Colonization ability. Do a tech treaty with a Gas and Ice empire, and you just made 1.6 million research points very early in the game. Cancel the treaties with them, and colonize till your heart is content!

Actually..
Actually, you need to share the "race specific starting tech" option in the tech trading menu in order to get the planet techs. You can also get crystal and organice tech too....

Colony is not race specific
Colony is not race specific tech, I believe.
Aye, tis true
You are quite right. It is also readily available for trade, and a good way of saving 200k research

AI Too?
Will the AI start colonizing planets of your type when you do this. Or is this just one way?
I was considering trying to
I was considering trying to change the colonization techs, i haven't worked out exactly how, but starting off (everythin except what you start with, like Rock Colonization) you could only colonize those other planets with the new type and the same type of atmosphere, but only in domes. So you could now colonize say Gas giants with Oxygen and this would only be in domes. Level two would allow you to colonize the rest of the atmospheres in domes and the third level maybe automatically undome the oxygen atmosphere. The idea is that you can simply walk around on a gas giant breathing the air. It would takea hgher level of technology. But i imagine it would be easier to live ona domed world that had the right atmostphere, then one you would have to generate 100% yourself. Maybe have teh oxygen dome double the normal size. Of ocurse i don't even know if any of this is possible, but it is something I have been considering. What do you guys think?

Not
I can't think of any way to do that, though with all the changes made there might be SOMETHING. That said, planetsizes are all in absolutes, not formulas, so agian, not likely.

Well maybe we can find some
Well maybe we can find some way to work around it...

remote mining
I agree, remote mining is too remote... asteroid mining is not that high tech. It should be a lot easier than the colonization of gas giants for terrestrial empires. Even if you are playing limited resources, I don't see the point of going so far out of the way for remote mining... better to change those asteroids into planets with a tech you need to research anyway.
