WHEN IS THE DEMO GOING TO BE FIXED? |
I've downloaded the demo, attempted to run it, no joy, followed the install instructions to switch the sound thing from True to False, then I got an error message, WTF? I know you guys are releasing an alpha here but come on, people are already paying to play this? So far I haven't even gotten into the content. Don't know how unhappy this makes me feel, i.e. galciv2 isn't MP and thats what I want but I also want a damn demo that actually allows me to get to a menu screen. Fix this unaceeptable s**t or don't ask for ppls money.

Read the forums a bit -
Read the forums a bit - you'll see the sticky about the 1.08 patch which says a new demo is coming out soon - but there is no ETA currently. As soon as this changes you can rest assured that I'll post information on it in that thread.
Also - watch your language and attitude - I can understand you're frustrated but there's a proper way to do things, and this isn't it.

I think I just had an evilgasm.....
The (now official?) Space Empires 4 Mod Launcher V2.26
I'm happy
The demo also worked fine for me. I notice it has a tendency to crash once I am up around turn 85, but then this was is pre gold code and also free, so what the hey. I just make it a point to save the file every so many turns.
I tried to play MOO2 when it came out. Its instruction book never made any sense to me so I gave up. I was very disappointed.
I really liked Ascendancy and I keep thinking of that game as I play this demo. I'm not sure if there is any history between the two games. It's probably like the various CAD s/w programs I sell. If a concept is good, it makes its way into other applications. I just see a lot of Ascendancy here.
One of the theme songs in the demo (Main04) keeps reminding me of the music from the movie "City of Lost Children" composed by Angelo Baldamenti. Any connection there?
I was able to get the full manual off of the Steam site so this has given me some insights past the tutorial.
I found the tutorial very good. It had it's faults but I really appreciate a tutorial in a game that doesn't try and over whelm you. This struck a good balance of getting you up to speed with out going over everything.
I have enjoyed the game so far and have just scratched the surface. I definitely plan to purchase it.

Wants Demo fixed
There are more important things to do than fix the demo, such as fixing the game for the people that have purchased it.
Try not to be so selfish - go play a different game and check back in a week. You are entitled to your opinion, but don't expect to find acceptance around here with a bad attitude.

Trolling
It isn't my specific computer setup as I've tried it on this system along with 3 others, all different configs, the demo causes access violation faults, which is ridiclious, nobody has answered the question.
I'll stand by my statement releasing a demo which doesn't rep the actual product is bs. Releasing a demo that doesn't work is bs. Releasing a product that has bugs fixed but a demo for the product that doesnt' work yet expecting people to just buy the product is a stupid marketing idea, and bs. Like it or not, fix the demo, fix the issue.
Trolling isn't nice. And generally acts as a clarion call for troll-slayers. Stop it, or I'm quite sure you will end up regretting it.
That said, it probably is your setup, as many others got the demo to run. Sure, you tried it on 3 seperate computers, but I bet they all had dual core or some other shared "fault" point... or you're just really unlucky. As far as the demo goes, any idiot would realize that the demo has far lower priority for fixes than the game itself. As far as "access violation faults" being ridiculous, you're being plain silly. And look at the release date on the demo before you say it doesn't "rep the actual product"... its pre-release, and last I checked said so (that may have changed).
So stop ruining my morning already.

Fine here
The demo and game work fine for me, mostly, a couple minor bugs. If you can't start game it might be your conputer config at fault, have latest drivers etc? Calm down give HIM some time to fix the crash issues. No game can come out bug free.
