Ministers bug

Soumis par outsdr le Jeu, 2006-10-19 10:52
Project:Space Empires V
Component:Miscellaneous
Category:bug
Priority:critical
Assigned:Unassigned
Status:active

Description

The Minister Bug: For every player except the host, ministers randomly take control of functions, even though they are turned off. This happens on a LAN TCP/IP game. Does not happen every turn.

I'll be testing this as well tonight. It makes sense that this will work.

Possible cause...

Soumis par Captain Kwok le Jeu, 2006-10-19 11:47

This is likely due to the players turn not being "received" and the turn processed.

Ministers Bug

Soumis par outsdr le Jeu, 2006-10-19 12:05

Ok, that makes sense, in that the computer will take over if the turn is not received. However, if that is so, it brings up another issue:

How does the host make sure then that the _actual_ players turn has been received and processed, besides the obvious (yet painstaking) option of manually copying files?

Agreed

I think Kowk's cause is probably correct. We ran into the exact same problem in our LAN MP game. We were able to work around it by ALWAYS having the player on the HOST pc finish their turn first and get back to the game management screen (the screen where you hit 'process turn'). It seemed the host did not correctly receive the remote player files unless it was sitting at this screen.

Note: I mentioned this workaround in another thread and had some feedback that it didn't solve the problem for everyone, but it still seems to work for us.

Cyclone, I think I love you.

Cyclone, we haven't tested this yet but I think it'll work because it seems whenever I finish first the minster doesn't go insane, if it works you've just fixed our two biggest problems (The Player Placement lockup and this) THANKEE!

I'll move to this thread to try tp keep active topics to a minimum. It will take a bit more testing, but it seems that it is the design/construction and research ministers going gonzo in the game I am playing. Ship movement seems uneffected, so far.

As the host, I have also had my research and designs go batty, so I'm not sure it will get rid of my troubles, but hopefully the player connected to me can at least trust his research queue.
