Cultural Achievements? |
What do cultural research do? As I understand these only count toward score point and do nothing else? I recently corned an AI empire into a single planet, and coerced it into giving me all its techs, and saw that it had been researching cultural techs, or at least bought some for its starting technology.
Re: Cultural Achievements?
If you look carefully at a planet's Abilities tab, you can usually figure out what each area gives a bonus in when you first gain a level of it.
Some mods expand the text in that tab to explicitly say what achievement the bonus is coming from.

"Good morning, Pooh Bear," said Eeyore gloomily. "If it /is/ a good morning," he said. "Which I doubt," said he.

Re: Cultural Achievements?
Or just look under Help (Shift+H), Cultural Achievements.
Re: Cultural Achievements?
It's mathematics that gives a boost to research. Sports is nice because it gives you a ground combat bonus.
Re: Cultural Achievements?
The Cultural techs are actually very nice.
In stock, compare:
Research mathematics costs 10k for 1% research bonus, that is applied next turn to all your research.
Research centers for 50k, then building or upgrading centers to receive the upgrade over time as your facilities get finished.
When it is time for me to upgrade my research, I just research which ever one costs less. 1% of 5k research is 50 points, while upgrading a 500-point facility to 550 is also 50 points.
Population Loyalty, there is NO way to increase it other then Cultural studies. If your selected race/government has a net negative effect, other races in your empire loyalty will erode until they revolt.
Leisure services increase population reproduction for cheap, vs med labs research and building.

Re: Cultural Achievements?
Have you actually had any revolts happen? Also, it would seem that the other rece loyalty will only erode if you're at war with that empire...
Re: Cultural Achievements?
Loyalty is still affected by the usual stuff - war weariness in peaceful races, friendly/enemy warships in system, intel ops, events, etc.

Re: Cultural Achievements?
They give you slight bonuses to stuff. Education for instance might give you +1% to research per level. It might not seem like much but cultural stuff is cheaper than other techs and the effect is immediate. So you could strive for another level of research and then have to upgrade your research facilities, or spend some spare points on education and instantly get a bit more research. There's other stuff as well such as increased happiness or loyalty.
