Game Issue

You've done nothing but click 'new game', correct?

If you had actually started a new game and maybe minimised the screen then it can black out lots of stuff. I can't say why there would be no text if you only chose to start a new game. It should give you options for your game and allow you to make up an empire.

Also, consider using the Balance Mod for better single player gaming. The AI in the BalanceMod makes the game far more challenging, thus exciting to play.

Downloaded digitally? All transmissions are analog. Its the modems that convert the signal to digital for your PC.

I wish I knew more about Vista. There seems to be alot of issues associated with it.

Digital is voltage levels (ones and zeroes).
Fiber is light waves or pulses. A fiber modem converts the light into ones and zeroes. Light is analog.
