Star Trek Trailers..... |

For those who have saw the new trailer.......
Re: Star Trek Trailers.....
Looks good. Thanks!
Re: Star Trek Trailers.....
Here's a shot by shot explanation of the Trailer.
Warning though, it does give away some spoilers. One in particular I find interesting. Maybe it will go the Enterprise series route.

all in all it has some unexpected stuff, nothing I really don't dislike. However I'd like to go on record as saying I think the romantic stuff is quite unecessary. Not so much that there is romance, more that it seems they just thought as long as one of the main characters was a woman she should be paired up with Kirk. In the past the only reference to such a thing had them being mind controlled.
Re: Star Trek Trailers.....
Looks like a bunch of tongue in cheek teenie-bopper crap to me. Based on the trailer I'm thinking Porky's in space. Gene Roddenberry is probably rolling over in his grave.
Re: Star Trek Trailers.....
Porky's in space?
Re: Star Trek Trailers.....
This trailer indicates that the movie is just going to be one long series of YATIs, and would never have stood a chance of being filmed if Roddenberry were still alive. A Constitution class vessel being built on the surface? Kirk meeting TOS crewmembers (Uhura, Spock) before he ever replaced Capt. Pike?
As you can probably tell, I'm a die hard canon Trek fan. This movie looks to be as far from canon as it is possible to get, and is liable to end up being just as crappy as the last Next Gen movie was. I won't waste money to see it on the big screen...once it hits dvd I might rent it, but not before then.
Re: Star Trek Trailers.....
I wouldn't say I've anything against it, I simply never get that obsessed over such things. The way I see it they stopped making Trek stuff a few years back so clearly it became unpopular. If the studios want to sell more trek stuff they have to change stuff to make it popular. I mean it's their job to make money, you can't blame them for doing what they can to do their job. I don't like a few things I've seen (teen drama rubbish) but I'd still go and see it. I say I would, I may well not as I never really can be bothered to get around to going to movies these days.
In the interests of discussion I'll make clear my Stance regarding Star Trek. It may help to udnerstand from what direction I'm coming if we want to stick to the topic.
I'm more on the cynical scale of things. Personally I liked DS9. I read that people think it went against everything Rodenberry made Star Trek for, and that in particular Pale Moonlight went totally in the opposite direction. I prefer to think it just goes to show that idealism doesn't work in the real world. Voyager, I've never really hated it, but over time I've come to think it's a bit weak. It's ok just as something to put on when I've got nothing to watch. I'd rate it about 3rd/4th. However I'll go further into that.
I saw TOS when I was young, but I've never had cable or anything so I've never had a chance to watch reruns. I'd place it last. One good thing I'd say is it created Satr Trek, other than that I haven't got time for it. I'm big on effects and from what I remember TOS effects were weak and old so I've never even bothered to search for epsiodes, like renting or stuff.
rankings
DS9
TNG
Enterprise (season 4)
Voyager
Enterprise 1+2
TOS/Enterprise 3
I said before I don't really worry over things, but there is one topic I'd like to mention.
Way to go creators of Enterprise, way to go. Everyone wanted to see the early history of Trek, and you went elsewhere, hey fine with me, I'll take what I'm given. For goodness sake when ratings go down don't go creating an entire season that goes off even further and revolving around major history that's never been mentioned before, or aliens we've never heard of. That right there is what killed Enterprise. Kudos, you got it right in the last season. The two mirror episodes were the best, but you'd killed it. Too late, ratings lost, dead series. damnit.
As it goes the time travel in the new movie could explain the differences from canon.
Re: Star Trek Trailers.....
The lack of canon will alienate the paying fans. I can picture my nerdy friends who used to sit around arguing the finer points of Star Trek vomiting at the merest mention of some of the things in this movie. A Constitution class ship being built on the surface indeed. Are they planning to load the antimatter while on the surface? Launch the ship before tuning the engines? Sigh. These things are built in space for a reason and aerodynamics is the least of them.
Not sure if its part of the movie but I'd like to see the accident that crippled Capt. Pike.
Re: Star Trek Trailers.....
they were after starfleet got going. Why not load anti-matter while on the surface? the ship has an atmosphere in the room where the antimatter is stored..... As for the launch, you can't tune the engines unless you're in space. So tuning while in a landside berth is a no-go. I am kinda concerned about how they seem to be writing out Pike.
Re: Star Trek Trailers.....
Safety reasons. A starship has enough to blow a hole in a planet. We are already nervous about launching things with nuclear power plants as it is.
I recall that Capt. April was in charge for the maiden voyage and command was later given to Capt. Pike. Spock already had a long working relationship with Pike. Capt. Kirk came later. The trailer made it look like the ship was being built for Kirk.
Re: Star Trek Trailers.....
My understanding is that Kirk walks onto the ship and tells Pike he'll be capatin in 3 years. Kirk that is.
As I mentioned because of the time travel plot it might explain it. They're all actually cadets but because someone drops a black hole onto Vulcan they suddenly need all the crewmembers they can get and everyone meets years before they were supposed to.
Another thing. Scotty should be something like 20 years older than everyone else.
Re: Star Trek Trailers.....
A black hole on Vulcan?!?
Re: Star Trek Trailers.....
That was just people making stuff up.
Re: Star Trek Trailers.....
hmm, maybe. I got the idea soemwhere. sorry.
Re: Star Trek Trailers.....
