Atmospheric Modification Plant takes to long |
I recently found that the Atmospheric Modification Plant doesn't take 3 turns but 3.0,aka 30 turns.I'm Playing with Balance mod with a large map and large number of enemy empires. With their bonus on high and difficulty on high it tends to make them ruthless lol, making new planets a must have.By the time my plants are built and FINALLY change my atmosphere I'm locked in battles with 2-3 empires and lacking in the resources I need to hold a good defense. So now I'm looking to change the plants change time from 30 turns to about 10-15,that way I'm not giving myself a HUGE advantage because even then I'm looking at a rough 10 turns lol.can anyone help me? I tried using the space empires V editor but i get an error when trying to open it,so it looks like good old notepad is my only option, is it?Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Re: Atmospheric Modification Plant takes to long
I always thought the plants take too long to be useful. Modifying the data file shouldn't be too difficult.
Re: Atmospheric Modification Plant takes to long
I modded a game once and it kept failing because, as I found out, I spelt dreadnought wrong
Edit: Well to be accurate, the wrong spelling of dreadnought.
Re: Atmospheric Modification Plant takes to long
If you read the description carefully it actually says 3 YEARS. One year of game time is 10 turns.
Re: Atmospheric Modification Plant takes to long
I've seen improvements finish in games that go long enough. You get an event message at the start of the turn saying the planet can't be improved any further. At that point I scrap the facility and build something else.
Re: Atmospheric Modification Plant takes to long
How exactly does atmospheric mod. plant work in terms of upgrades?
Let's say I build the plant, and it takes 3 years to change atmosphere. After one year has passed, I upgrade it to one that takes 2.4 years to change atmosphere.
Will the game:
a)calculate that it was operational for 1/3 of the required time and 2/3 remain, making the remaining time to 1.6 years(2/3 of 2.4)?
b)calculate that the plant was operational for 1 year, and reduce that from the time so there is 1.4 years left?
c)ignore work done by the previous version, so it will take full 2.4 years to change the atmosphere?
d)do something else, that I haven't though about?
Does anyone know? I'm sort of curious, as the c option means you should not build the atmosphere mod plant before you get a really good one, while B means building one as fast as possible and upgrading it is good idea. A is sort of mix.
Re: Atmospheric Modification Plant takes to long
Its a continual process. Upgrades just make it go faster. So its more like option A but definitely not C.
Re: Atmospheric Modification Plant takes to long
Why you need Atmospheric Modification Plant? It is easier, faster and cheaper to get population from other empires through mirration or planet capturing.

Re: Atmospheric Modification Plant takes to long
I'll give you a very good reason: not all games have all possible atmosphere breathers in them

Re: Atmospheric Modification Plant takes to long
And not all would want to migrate...
Re: Atmospheric Modification Plant takes to long
Actually I think it's B.

Re: Atmospheric Modification Plant takes to long
I've had that happen. I've conquered races that breathe a different atmosphere. I've had lots of domed planets that would love to have them. But the buggers refused to migrate away from their planet - perhaps because they hadn't fully integrated into my empire after being conquered? Nothing seemed to work, so I had to resort to the old stand-by of shipping them to each and every planet that needed the population. Once the dome was removed, then they would migrate freely to (and from) the planet - but not before.
Re: Atmospheric Modification Plant takes to long
I think they won't migrate to a planet they see as "full".

Re: Atmospheric Modification Plant takes to long
I remember seeing a topic discussing the exact mechanics of migration. IIRC there are some quirks depending on the relative planet population.

Re: Atmospheric Modification Plant takes to long
I've never modded SEV and all I can mention is what I've read. I keep seeing some mention about different countries using different punctuation, something about . and ,. Maybe it would help if you make sure you have the right punctuation when you make changes.
