Balance Mod diplomacy: subjugation treaty |
If you (as the subjugated empire) conclude such a treaty with the AI, it asks you for all kinds of concession, which is what one would expect. However, when it comes to resource tariffs, my new overlord actually grants me 5% of his resources. While that is very generous of him, I think this should rather be the other way round. Is that a bug or a WAD?
Also, I have the impression that being my new overlord does not do much to deter the AI from declaring war on me a couple of turns later. IMHO, this should also be different, the AI should have a much more benevolent attitude towards its vassals.
Could anybody point me to the file in which I can change these features of subjugation treaties?

Re: Balance Mod diplomacy: subjugation treaty
Making a treaty affects anger in two ways, first there is a big drop in anger due to the signing of the treaty that slowly fades away, and second, there is a anger drop that grows in time for being 'friends'. However, those drops may not always be big enough for a much stronger empire to curb their overall desire to conquer weak players if they are prone to aggression or you're maintaining treaties with their enemies.
Some strategies you can employ to improve relations would be making friends with the stronger empire's friends, sending gifts, or agreeing to their requests. To answer your question, all gifts count equally in terms of anger reduction.
Re: Balance Mod diplomacy: subjugation treaty
I've been too generous then. If 1 resource is as good as 10,000 then I'm going to have to do things differently. It would make better sense if the reduction in anger was proportional (within limits of course).

Re: Balance Mod diplomacy: subjugation treaty
I'll provide a fix for v1.17 of the mod, which will be out later next week. It looks like the Tariff selection is defaulting to the first selection, but I need to double check that first. Do you know the approximate score difference between you and the AI empire?
There is a modifier to prevent the breaking of treaties by the AI for at least X number of turns after making a treaty - which usually gives enough time for relations to be repaired sufficiently so that after the moratorium, it doesn't necessarily want to break the treaty. Although if the AI is much stronger and your friends with a lot of their enemies, then their anger level might remain quite high.
