Ok, here's the plan. Some of my favourite books are Starfire novels. The ones I have are Shiva Option andIn Death's Ground,Crusade, and Exodus. Many times I have seen people query if there is a Starfire mod and I've been interested. I have thought for a long time that I'd like to do it, only I made a mod once for a game (Domination mod for Hearts of Iron 2) and as much as I enjoyed the product the effort it took put me off ever doing it again. I don't know but that maybe it's been long enough since then that I feel like working on another mod, now I seem to have the spare time, at least a SEV mod won't involve all the ai work and graphics stuff my HoI mod involved.
So I can't promise anything, after all my AARs tend to sort of crash to a halt when I don't have the time. So I'll list the sort of things I can think of and welcome any suggestions. Maybe I'll miss something. I might even get Insurrection despite my dislike of its situation, if only for the tech stuff. the actual game rules, well I can't find them with a brief glance at Amazon and Ebay. I've seen some rules such as weapons and ships listed soemwhere, I probably have it bookmarked, only I can't find it offhand at the moment. I have had the Starfiredesign site bookmarked for awhile but it's a bit old and seemingly unchanged for years.
Right now, off the top of my head.
It's a pity warp point size doesn't work. For all its faults at least Exodus uses the problem of getting Juggernoughts through small WP. Then there was moving across interstellar space. I might have seen a mod listed somehwere that covered that sort of thing.
Oh if only there was a way to do closed warp points. In fact I could say the allure of Starfire is the closed warp points. Now that i've remembered them I might even say I might not bother if I can't figure out a way.
X-ray buoys. A one shot weapon that ignores shields and armour. Maybe the sattelite blows up, or maybe it just only has a recharge time of longer than a fight.
X-ray lasers for ships. Like Buoys only on ships. The Thebans managed it by containing the nuclear explosion, and with only a 3% chance of blowing up their own ship. Is there a way for a weapon to risk destroying its own ship?.
Clearly drones work pretty much as normal. Drones that blow up taking lots of units nearby with them might be good, if I knew how to do it.
PD fire that can't fire at the rear covered by the engines?
ships:
pretty much the same. Neostandard to cover larger sizes such as monitors, superdreadnoughts and all that. Ot then again maybe just rename stuff.
pinnaces.
weapons:

Plasma broadsides. Powerful, but very short ranged.
I know the actual Starfire game has lots of other stuff that weren't in the books which I'd be willing to include if I knew what they were.

Re: Starfire.
Start with no warp points then give access to warp point opening technology. Limit the range of the WP openers and decide on how long it takes (resources) to build one.
I read about someone else doing a Starfire mod.....I think. They used a different name for copyright reasons I think. Something Fire Mod?

Re: Starfire.
I had an idea. Is it possible to set up a script so that a warp point is opened if someone sees part of a system? That way I could have closed wp maybe that only show once you find them, instead of existing from the start. The problem with trying to have a closed wp is that you can always see what wp lines a system has. It would probably mean ahving to custom make every map though.
