Game configuration and first turn questions from a newb |
Hi, i've just joined this site and i'm pretty much a newb on space empires V.
I'm posting to ask if anyone can help me with what i should do in my first few turns of a game and about a good game config.
Can anyone suggest to me a decent game configuration that won't give everybody buckets of resources, research points and the ability to pump out dreadnoughts straight away?
Also could anybody give me a few hints on what i just do in my first few turns and maybe some tips on what to aim for or something to keep my empire running.
And do you think i should choose strategical or tactical battle modes and whats the difference?
Thanks, adal8or.

Try a small galaxy with few players until you are used to using the interface, diplomacy, balancing your economy, building and moving stuff, etc. You'll get into doing all of the basic stuff rather quickly.

Maxing out your storage is normal. You want to keep your production as high as possible, if it goes negative then the loss is deducted from your storage. You don't want your storage to hit zero. Think of your storage as saving for a rainy day.

Patches for European versions should be found at Empire Interactive's website.
If you installed the english language version of the European game, you can apply the regular US patches.

You will find a pretty detailed Strategy guide on the SEV Wiki that details in-game configuration during the 1st turn and thereafter:

Having low settings will make the game go slower so you don't get dreadnoughts and similar ships too soon.
Standard tactics at the beginning of a game is to use emergency production and make lots of colony ships to quickly expand your border.
Tactical battles show you the map and you can guide your ships. Strategic means the computer will run the battle for you. You can't see the results until afterwards.
