Carrier Problem |
Greetings.
I'm new to the game and have an odd problem which may a newb mistake or may be a bug in the game. I'm playing a single player game, version 1.74, and have just made a few carriers and loaded them with about 50 fighters apiece. The carriers have between 8000-15000 supplies onboard. After the carriers engage in combat for the first time, they consume minimal supplies, just a few hundred. After the second combat, they have 0 supplies remaining. The carriers took no damage in combat. I send supply ships to resupply them and while I can transfer the supplies off my ships, the carrier does not seem to receive them, so I end up with a carrier still at 0 and a supply ship with 0.
What's the explanation? Have I done something stupid or is this a bug? Thanks in advance!

Re: Carrier Problem
Your fighters also use supply. As far as I know, they refeul at your carrier. So if your fighters use a lot of feul during combat, your carriers run out of supplies fast.
But that's the way I understand it.

Re: Carrier Problem
This IS a bug and a very annoying one at that. My carriers hold 17,000 supplies and 76 fighters. The only thing on my fighters that says it uses supplies are the afterburners, and they only use 7, so there is no way that they uses 17,000 supplies in one battle. Even if they did, you should be able to resupply the ship. Besides that, I had played this game {don't remember what version} before my computer crashed, and the carriers worked perfectly and my fleets were untouchable. I just recently reinstalled the game and started playing, and I am very disappointed at this glitch.
Re: Carrier Problem
I forgot to mention that when you take your carrier into battle, highlight it and you will see that as soon as you click the play button it looses all supplies, so it is not a fighter resupply issue. also your shields go to 0/0 as soon as you press the play button. so obviously a bug.
Re: Carrier Problem
I thought that found a temporary solution, but it didn't work. I tried several different mods like making the fighter bay generate supplies, but nothing works, it still says 0/17000 supplies after the next turn when it should have generated 500 supplies per fighter bay. I did find though that if you launch all your fighters into space, you can then resupply the carrier and then recover units from space.
Re: Carrier Problem
Yes it is a severe bug, which makes carriers almost useless, and I reported it to MM.
Until it gets fixed (hopefully) I use the following compensation:
I increased all supply/ordnance values by 10 except for the fighter/troop components.
Re: Carrier Problem
I just noticed that the resupply problem exests with any ship containing cargo. I have a troop transport ship that i was trying to trasfer supplies to, I had just transfered some supplies while it contained no units in cargo, then picked up units, and when i tried to transfer more supplies after having troops onbord, the supplies just disappear.
Re: Carrier Problem
It's not just ships. I transfered the units to a planet, then transfered supplies to the cargo ship. that works so the cargo space has to be empty before the supplies can be transfered. However, I then tried to move supplies from a ship to the planet because I was going to retrofit the ship. This is another bug by the way, when you retrofit a ship to a new design that has upgraded engines, you loose all supplies on that ship and it has to be resupplied. This becomes a problem when retrofiting a fleet of ships, because the system doesn't generate enough supplies to resupply all the ships at once. The supplies should be moved to planet prior to retrofit, and then resupplied to the ship after it is retrofited. Anyway back to my original point, I tried to move supplies from a ship to the planet containing units in cargo, and the supplies just disappear(removed from ship but not added to recipiant). So there is some kind of issue with manual supply transfering when the recipiant has units in cargo. As far as I know, the aoutomatic resupply done in systems containing resupply depots does work.
I hope that not only does this help anyone experiancing this problem, but that MM reads this. If anyone knows how to bring these issues to MM's attention please cut and paste my posts to them. I'm gonna go back to playing
Re: Carrier Problem
this is what I know of the bug
Carrier bug
When carriers loaded with fighters battle after the battle all the fighters forget what suppys they have and take more from the carrier (50 fighters that can hold up to 900 suppys each adds up to 45000 suppys lost in every battle) which can make a carrier need more suppys after a battle or two no matter how big or small the battle was.

Re: Carrier Problem
That is odd. I'm not a heavy carrier user anymore but I'll give a try and see.
