Drones and Game Balance |

All,
Drones have been a point of contention of mine for a while now. I've seen them SEVERELY unbalance games in both Devnull Mod and Balance Mod games. Devnull was working on this before he disappeared, but the problem still persists in my mind and its becoming more and more evident in our current game using the B5W Mod.
Let me show you some examples of what I'm referring to.
Fighter Craft:
1. I have a current fighter level that grants me 28kt fighters.
2. I add the essentials on the fighter. Engines, cockpit, life support, etc.
3. I have say 20kts left over for weapons and armor.
4. Why can't I add a couple Minbari ship class Neutron Lasers or Fusion Cannons on my fighter?
5. I have the room (Kilotons) to add these weapons to my fighter, so I should be able to, correct?
Understanding:
1. The reason you can't add ship weapons to the fighter is based on scale.
2. That Neutron Laser is technically several times the size of the fighter even though its weight would allow it to be placed on the fighter.
3. This is the reason we have a whole set of equipment for fighters that are SCALED to the correct requirement to be on a small craft.
My Point:
1. Drones are SMALL craft that are maybe twice the size of a fighter in terms physical sizes.
2. Drones are small craft, BUT getting to use ship SCALED weapons, engines and armor.
3. To add to this issue. Drones in B5W's mod are using Thrusters and Ship class weapons without the need of an Engine or Reactor like a ship must have. That is HUGE disadvantage to ships as it gives the drone a free 80kts worth of equipment that ships must have in their designs.
Summary:
1. Drones need to be either restricted to Warheads only or they need a set of components that are SCALED to their relative size. I'm tired of technically SMALL craft being WOEFULLY overpowered defeating ships that should rip them to shreds.
You can ask anyone from our previous PBW games on what they think of drones.....I'm referring to the Devnull Games and the Galactic Domination 3 game. Drones ruled the stars in those games making ships nearly useless.
I call to the Mod makers out there to amend their Mods to represent the Drones actual scale like the Fighter classes have been done.

A 20 ton weapon on a fighter would have a ridiculous amount of recoil. Imagine putting a 16inch battleship gun on a frigate (or PT boat).

If the 20 ton weapon can't fit on a fighter for any reason, then the weapon is not 20 tons and it requires some kind of stabilizing or recoil compensation mechanism. Then again, a battleship might be able to use the rest of its hull as that stabilizing mechanism.

Drones have an exaustible feul supply and cannot resupply. Their usefulness is severely limitid by that...

Picturing it:
Fighter = Car
Drone = Tractor trailer
Frigate (smallest ship) = 8 Tractor Trailers set 4 Wide X 4 Long
One of you math guys figure out what the ratio of a Fighter's Weapon, Engine, Etc compares to the same ship's weapon in terms of weight, damage, etc.
This would give a basic scale to use to create a Medium/Drone component class like the Smaller Component classes used for fighters.
