..:: Grudge 3 ::.. New game on PBW |

Grudge 3 is now open for signups on PBW. We'll be using Balance Mod for this scenario. Please read the victory conditions carefully!
Every player will be given a secret enemy. If your secret enemy is still "alive" when the game ends, you lose. You also lose if your empire is not "alive" when the game ends (defined below). The game will end when all surviving players agree to end it. Therefore it is possible for multiple players to win. More details and definitions are below.
Starting resources: 50000
Starting planets: 1
Home planet value: Good
Score display: All
Technology points: 0
Technology cost: Medium
Racial points: 2000
Quadrant type: Custom map
Quadrant size: 60 systems, minimum 4 hops between starting systems, maximum of 6 hops to your farthest neighbor
Event frequency: Medium
Event severity: High
Victory conditions: SEE ABOVE PARAGRAPH
Maximum units: 3000
Maximum ships: 500
alive: A player is considered alive as long as he controls at least one planet, and responds to communications from the Host in a timely manner. A player which has been killed by the destruction or capture of his planets may continue to submit turns, but he cannot win the game. Recapturing or colonizing a planet does NOT turn a dead player back into a living one. Death is permanent.
scores: All scores are visible. Therefore it is easy to see if a player is still alive. If your secret enemy "dies" then you should report it to the host to avoid confusion.
game end: The game ends when all surviving players agree that it should end. You don't get to vote if your empire is not alive.
map: We will be using a custom quadrant map for this game. Starting systems are arranged such that all players will start within 4-6 hops from each other - no more, no less. There are approximately 50 inhabitable systems, or about 6 systems per player.
Re: ..:: Grudge 3 ::.. New game on PBW
I'd like to make a comment if I may.
I played a game like this and indeed I won even though I was at the bottom of the player list and If I remember properly I may not have even ever met my secret enemy. For reasons that escape me and in fact I don't think I ever found out why, someone took it upon themselves to wipe out an empire even though it wasn't their enemy, as I mentioned it was mine. So I won.
I just thought that worth mentioning.

If the Balance Mod 1.15 is released before this game starts, will we use that version instead? That would invalidate any empire files uploaded before the switch (the costs of a number of racial traits have changed since 1.14b), but there are a lot of neat updates in the new version

Seriously that's what we need, a Space Empires themed roguelike!

Re: ..:: Grudge 3 ::.. New game on PBW
Empire files created under v1.14 won't generally work with v1.15, so I'd wait.

Re: ..:: Grudge 3 ::.. New game on PBW
Gee whiz, surely SOMEONE else wants to join this game! I can't very well have my own empire as my target!

Re: ..:: Grudge 3 ::.. New game on PBW
I'd just like to make a couple comments about the scenario for those who are possibly interested but not yet convinced. Why choose a scenario like this instead of an open-ended game?
1) Less stagnation. Everyone has an enemy from turn 1, even if he chooses not to reveal it. Therefore 100+ turns of peace simply isn't going to happen.
2) Unlike a pure team game, your relations with the other 7 players are left ambiguous. You're free to use diplomacy however you wish. You can convince other races to do your dirty work.
3) Fear of the unknown. Who's trying to kill you? Who's trying to kill your allies? Use your wits and your common sense to figure out the puzzle... hopefully BEFORE the invasion fleet shows up on your doorstep.
