Maximum Weapons Range |
The max range for any weapon appears to around 600 or so no matter how high I set the missiles. Since I'm trying to give missile ships a much, much, longer range than they enjoyed in the stock (and increased the combat map size to compensate), I also increased point defense range since I wanted the defending side abit more time to engage the missiles. But the max range means that PD starts taking down missiles the moment they launch.
How can I set the range of any weapon higher than that?

It would be easier to reduce the range of the other weapons.
Scale everything (down) to the missiles hard coded maximum of 500.

In my mod I actually scaled down the distance. After all it is a video game so "distance" is really all relative anyway.
My short range is 30-60, medium is up to 180, and max is up to 300. The settings text has them at 30, 90, and 150 to provide for the best to-hit ratio with the weapons as the range penalties are consistent with Babylon 5 Wars as well. I halved the ranges to allow for that optimum to-hit number.
I have very missile heavy races in the mod and these ranges make for some excellent missile battles. I also have many more weapons in the mod that are capable of shooting down a missile as well. Some missile systems can fire every 500ms. And no problems.
So my suggestions is to simply scale your mod design to 500...or establish your own parameters within that 500 maximum. In the long run it truly makes no difference in the video game so long as everything is scaled to whatever range you establish as "max".

You can't; 500 is a hard-coded maximum.
