Gear question |
So Im now playing SEV with latest patch and Devnull mod.
this mod is indeed a great one cause it makes the AI smart (i'm not even 1st on score).
the problem is, cause the AI is so smart and it has many units, the time between turns is rly big (like 2 minutes each time).
Im planning to upgrade my PC. currently it has a Core 2 Duo and 3 Gb DDR II. ill replace them with a Core 2 Quad and 4 Gb DDR III.
so the question itseld: how faster will it get when I do?
Re: Gear question
You probably shouldn't bother upgrading the processor... Almost no programs you will use even use 2 cores intelligently, much less 4. This is especially true of games. Quad core processors are slower per core than dual core, which actually leads to a performance hit for any software not explicitly optimized for multi-threading.
Also, unless you are using a 64 bit OS, there is no point in going from 3 GB RAM to 4 GB. Most of that extra gig will be inaccessible to the system, and no user space program is allowed to use more than 2 GB anyways (unless you set the PAE hack, but that can cause problems for a number of poorly-coded programs).

Re: Gear question
Not much faster.
SEV does NOT use multiple processors/cores.
I find the best method of dealing with long turn processing is to have a second activity. Read a book, do some chores, do homework, etc. Monitor the game for battle input but basically leave the game alone and do something else during turn processing. I actually get bored waiting for the turn to process and that lowers my enjoyment.
