Music In SEV |
I had a few questions about the music in SEV.
1. Is it possible in any way to control which songs are played in-game, besides repeatedly saving or combat until you get the song you want?
2. Is it possible to import music from outside the game and have play in-game?
3. Is there any way to change the sound effects that are used in-game?
An answer to any of these questions would be appreciated.
Re: Music In SEV
1. Not to my knowledge. The game will occasionally change the background music without saving or engaging in combat, but not often enough for my taste. Otherwise, the same tune is played over, and over, and over... I work around this by creating "mixes" that feature multiple tunes so it doesn't get boring. I understand that many people turn off the in-game music completely and use an external player.
Now that you mention it, I'll create a post in the bug thread about this.
2. Yes. Look for the fields "Number of Main Songs" (for background music) or "Number of Combat Songs" (for battle music) in Settings.txt. These control how many songs are available and what songs are played.
3. Yes. You should look at Tampa Gamer's Sound Pack [http://home.spaceempires.net/downloads-file-391.html] to get an idea of how this is done.

Re: Music In SEV
Please keep in mind I don't actually listen to any SEV music.
1 and 2. As far as I know it's stored on the CD. I don't keep the CD in my drive and I never hear SEV music.
3. Now this one I can answer. I don't do it nowadays but back with SE4 I changed the sound effects for ones from another game eg. I changed the SE cloaking noise for one I copied from Star Fleet Battles. Just copy the sound you want into the space empires\sounds folder, and change its name to one that already exists such as UICloakOn.wav. Note it has to be a wav file, also make sure to keep the original sound somehwere in case you want it again.
