Newbie: Fleet Won't Attack Enemy Planet

Soumis par Warhoon le Dim, 2008-07-20 18:49 Space Empires V FAQs

I have a fleet with bombardment ships, I'm at war with the occupying race, I'm full up on supplies and ordnance, I've hit the "attack" order, but nothing's happening.

What am I missing?

Do you have a non-bombardment treaty element? With any Empire, doesn't have to be the one that owns the planet in question.

Good thought, but no, no non-bombardments treaty elements.

Is it normal for me to be in orbit and not see any facilities or units on the ground? There's an enemy flag on the planet, but I don't see anything when I click on item report.

You won't get an item report on enemy colonies... not sure if this changes when you get scanners. Does your fleet have movement left? It takes at least 1 movement point to execute an attack order. Also, are you running a simultaneous game?

Do you have the correct strategy? Make sure you are not using 'Do Not Get Hurt' or 'Capture Planet' otherwise your ships will not engage the planet unless they have ground troops.

Is the task force Leader a non combat ship that will retreat in combat?

Checked the strategy and the task force leader. All good. I have attack craft and bombardment craft. I've tried moving away from the world and using the attack order, but nothing happens -- the ships just move there. I've taken everything out of the fleet, and tried individual ships, nothing.

My fleet includes troop transports -- do I need to do something special to land them? I've tried looking through the cargo orders, but nothing allows me to transfer them to the planet.

Baffled, I am.

To drop troops, you need to enter combat, select a ship with troops and/or fighters in cargo and then use the Drop Troops order (bottom row, third from left).

Can't get a combat started.

Hmmm, I think there's a bug here.

You mean your ships move into the sector containing the enemy planet but no combat begins?

Are your ships cloaked? Do you have a treaty with the owner of the colony? This may sound silly, but are you sure you are attacking the right planet? Sometimes planets are so close together that it's hard to tell which is colonised and which is empty.

Did you check your fleet or task force orders?

If the ships have order to attack, and the fleet has order dont get hurt
the ships follow the fleet orders.

Or your settings in the attack order say "planets with colony damage amount zero"

hope this helps

Thanks for the suggestions.

I do not have cloaking tech. I am at war with the colony owner. The planet is isolated and I am positive that I'm moving into the right hex.

Sorry, yes, I choose the fleet, hit the "a" key or the "attack" button and target the planet. The fleet moves into the hex, but no combat begins.

Thank you for the suggestions.

I have gone through each ship and ensured that they are set to "optimum firing range". I have ensured the fleet has the same orders.

I do not know how to set the "planets with colony damage amount zero" order.

If your fleet contains troop transports then IIRC they will not attack the planet. I've had that happen to me and I had to look it up in the manual. It shouldn't be a problem for single ships though.

Thanks for the insight. I have a pleasingly aggressive mixture of attack ships, bombardment ships, troop ships, and miscellaneous supply.

I've tried disbanding the fleet and attacking with each individual ship type and no go.

I guess I'll just invest it and move on. Problem is -- it's the only planet in the system and I could really use the supply link (the system behind this one is an empty, formerly black hole system).

Pfft.

look under Empire Options in the main menue.

at the left side there is a list.
choose the one of the strategies you are using.

now you see on the right "target typ orders and settings"

look at the entry planets with colony damage amount.

ah, another question:
which strategie are you using. Do you try to capture or glass the planet?

This has nothing to do with ship strategies. It's weird, the only reason I can think for something like this to happen, is if you have a treaty with this player!
