I have never done any real modding, but I have changed a few files in different games, in this one I would like to know if its possible to change vehiclesize of the ships and link them to a specific shipset. Call me what you will guys, but This game whips on me. I like the imperial shipset, even though the spacestation has a bug, which I (off course) can't fix. I know how to change the ship tonage in the vehiclesize.txt, but if some would tell me how to link these new vehiclesize ships to a specific shipset so it can't be used by any other. I would appreciate it

Shipsets aren't directly connected to racial abilities. Also if any empire has the ability to construct a hull, but not model for it in their shipset.... bad things happen.... LOTS of bad things. BTW you can't set a shipset so it can only be used by one race. It just doesn't work.
Anyways, the way it works is that there's a list of hull "sizes". Each shipset contains instructions that the game uses to draw the various ships, units, and several other things. IE a shipset tells the game what the units look like, not what they are or what they can do. Shipsets also normally come with AI scripts that are used if the game tries to spawn a random player with that shipset. Shipsets do have SOME gameplay significance though, but only in the form of hull slot layouts. Honestly the layouts should have a certain amount of similarity to the "basic" layout. IE don't do weird stuff like leaving out armor slots. One of the stock ones has an issue there. The one that looks like green globs stuck together has a strangely low number of armor slots. This indicates bad design, it really doesn't help gameplay.
BTW do the Neutrals generate with random racial traits? If so you'd at least need to add this hullsize to the neutral shipset. Or never play with neutral races, one of the two. You could simply clone an existing entry for this instead of making a new one.
What are the designs of the ships you and tha AI are using?

As I said, you need to create a racial trait. Copy one of the existing tech traits as a template (eg: Crystalline). Then, copy a tech area as a template (eg: Crystallurgy), setting the requirement to your new trait. Add a second tech req to the special vehicle hulls, set to the new tech area. Now, select this trait for your race (or modify the AI scripts to select it for AI races), and the new hulls will be restricted to just empires with the trait. No existing AI empires will select a new trait, so you don't have to worry about that.

You would have to create a new racial trait required by the new vehicle sizes, and have the AI script used by that empire select said trait.
