Couple nice to have additions

Soumis par Wink le Sam, 2006-09-23 01:38 Space Empires V General

1.) On the ship design type screen. In previous versions, you could ADD a design type. I prefer to break mine down to more complex than simply "Attack Ship" or "Defense Ship". With the older versions, I could create a design type for "DD Destroyer" AND "DDG Missle Destroyer" so that when I went to build, they would be laid out nicely for me by purpose. The ability is probably there to do. What I have done, is edited the file to include what I wanted, but then on the fly, if I wish to add a type, I can't, and have to just remember to add it later.

2.) Is there anyway to handle fighter squadrons differently? I usually create 2 types of fighters early game. "Pure Fighters" with guns and armor and speed.. for engaing other fighters and escourting my heavies. I also make a strike fighter which is rocket heavy and shielded, but slower for ship busting. I would love to be able to detail this on my carriers.. but all I seem to get are 90 seperate listing for each individual fighter. The new fleet screen is great, I can create a fleet, and seperate task forces under it , each performing a different task.. I LOVE IT THANK YOU.. thats exactly what I am asking for; for the "Space Wings".

Example:

You have Alpha Fleet, beneath it you have..
Task Force 1: DesRon1 4 Destroyers
Task Force 2: DesRon7 3 Missle Destroyers
Task Force 3: Screen 5 Frigates
Task Force 4: Battle Line 4 Cruisers, 2 Battle Ships
Task Force 5: Carrier Force 2 CVL's

each set for different orders.. TF5 gets "Fighter Attack", TF4 gets close with enemy, TF2 gets attack from max range..etc..

It would be nice to sub the TF's for TF5 with similar
Task Force 5: Carrier Force 2 CVL's
TF 5.1: VF1 24 Medium Fighters
TF 5.2: VT1 12 Heavy Fighters
TF 5.3: VF4 48 Light Fighters

and be able to assign each of the sub TFs with seperate orders, so you could actually assign pure fighters to tangle with pure fighters.. and the heavies to either attack from max range, or close and slug it out.

would be nice to add to my depth and style. not sure if others get into that sorta detail.. call me sick in the head Smiling

1) You can add design types,

1) You can add design types, but to do it you have to edit DesignTypes.txt. You could do this for SE4, too, but it was nice to be able to add them mid-game.

2) I would assume that in the full game, all cargo/facilities/whatever will have an option to be shown in condensed format, if not at release than with a patch, because it's a huge problem.

I like the "sub-taskforce" idea. Call them squadrons or something. That could add a lot to battle strategy.

Another thing that would be

Soumis par Wink le Dim, 2006-09-24 01:45

Another thing that would be NICE to have, but probably not possible. The ship design names, and class names are flat text files. Is there anyway that the files could be split, or duplicated and then tied to a class? Even if I had to do it manually?

this is my idea. Instead of having a long list of ship class names.. you would have the listing of ship types, and each ship size call a specific design name file.. such as DD_designname.txt or BB_Designname.txt and then list names in each one

so under DD_designname.txt woudl be like Spruance, Kidd, Callaghan, Gearing etc.. so when you design a destoryer, those names are available without sorting through 255 names..

not sure this is even remotely possible to do, but thought I would mention it, as it would really help with some of my mod ideas to have this in place, prior to doing some of the things I would like to do.
