How does one go about doing this? There are 3 awsome ST: Federation shipsets out there and I want to try and merge them into one awsome shipset to use. Anyone know how to go ahead about doing this?

Re: Merging shipsets
Here is how to change the Cruiser in the FedTNG shipset to the one from TIC shipset. I usually make a new folder and copy all the files from FedTNG and work on that one.
Rename the TIC_Cruiser.x to FedTNG_cruiser.x ,open the file with a text editor such as TextPad or notepad and see what .bmp files are used for the textures. Copy the files and the .x file to the new folder. Open the TIC_InvConfiguration_Slots.txt and TIC_Ships_XFileClasses.txt then copy and paste the cruiser entries to the corresponding FedTNG files. Copy the TIC_LargePortrait_Cruiser.jpg, TIC_InvPortrait_Cruiser.jpg and TIC_Portrait_Cruiser.bmp to the new folder after renaming them to FedTNG. In a photo editor copy the cruiser pics in the TIC_ShipSet.bmp and TIC_Vehicle_Main_Texture.bmp and paste over the ones in the new FedTNG .bmps. _Unit_Combat_Texture.bmps are for mines, fighters, drons and satellites.
You may need to do some resizing of the ships, like when replacing a frigate with a battleship model, in the _Ships_XFileClasses.txt Starting Scale values and the Base Model Radius value.
Thats it in a nut shell is how you can mix and match shipsets. see http://wiki.spaceempires.net/index.php/Space_Empires_V for more info.
