Stellar Manipulation |
Few questions regarding Stellar Manipulation: (Been too long since I played a game that lasted long enough to use much of it)
1) Are Ring/Sphereworlds considered huge size for purposes of Tectonic Bombs? Or are they simply immune to them?
2) Planet Create Size and Star Create - Will they always make the MAXIMUM size or is there a random variable that will cause the created object to vary from smallest to largest allowed by the item?
3) Stellar Nucleonic Torpedo - if I recall, this could be used from anywhere in the system, is there any way to restrict it's usage to within a certain range of the star? (Was trying to figure out if a dedicated Nucleonic Warhead was feasable for Large Drones that had to be next to the star to use).
Side note, wish there was a way to restrict range of items for destruction... that way I could reverse order for Nucleonic Torpedoes, since the way the sizes in the StellarObjectTypes run, the tiny stars are dim red while the huge ones are the blue... it would seem logical that it would be easier to disrupt a hot star into destroying the system than a dim, cooler one so I'd like to make the torpedo work only on huge first and slowly gain effectiveness to work on tiny... reversing sizes in stellar objects wouldn't fix this, it would just create an identical problem for the Stellar Plasma Sphere (which works fine as is with the sizes the way they are - creating cooler stars at first and eventually hot ones).
Re: Stellar Manipulation
#1: ringworlds have a stellar size of huge, but I think the bombs work based on planet size.
#2: Planet create changes an asteroid belt to a planet, it works based on the size of the asteroid belt, thus the planet is the same as whatever the asteroids were. dunno about stars.
Re: Stellar Manipulation
Tectonic Bombs (and the planet creation device) work on file position, not size. An ability value of 5 means they can destroy any planet size from the first to the 5th in the PlanetSize.txt file. To make them destroy RW/SW, you'd need to make it have a max value of 7. This may or may not open the infinite planets loophole that was possible in SE4, depending on where exactly the asteroid object is created on destruction of the RW, and whether or not it will be cleared by creating the next one.
Planet creation makes the maximum of asteroid size and ability value, not just asteroid size.
Star creation ability seems to also have a max size value, but I'm not entirely sure how that one would work (there is no ordered list of star sizes).

Re: Stellar Manipulation
DOH! Forget number 3... seems that you have to be adjacent to a star to use the device anyway. Could have sworn it could be used from anywhere in the system, might have been in SEIV. Regardless I could have used Requirements Allow Usage to fix it anyway...
