Space Object Ownership?

Can one change the ownership of space objects like storm, star or asteroid to be a player value? I know you can change ownership of ships and planets, just curious if its possible or if someone has tried and verified one can't do this with script functions.

Well didn't take me long to figure out you can't own stars, storms, asteroids and such, just planets Sad

that is a shame because many cool things immediatly sprang to mind, colonies on the sun!! and they would be big... but if ur race can only colonise suns u get less planets overall than other players so evens out, also mining suns! i know this is done with several facilities but none of them are built on or next to the sun to make the most use of it.

Actually, If you wanted to get really creative, you could replace the object type of a star in order to make in minable. Sticking out tongue set the stellar object type to asteroid and you'll have a minable "star". Catch of course is that it only looks like a star now. Also you would be able to use the asteroid>planet tech on it.

BTW, does anybody know what happens if you have a size of asteroid "belt" that does not coorespond to a planet size?

You could do the switch-a-roo with a script, have the xfile look like a sun or whatever.

Not sure what would happen if you took the star out of the system, does it kill the system? Might have to put an invisible (aka very small xfile model) sun next to the 'planet' sun so things can continue normally.

Oh, I think if an asteroid field is larger than the planet size, the asteroid filed will default to the planet size model max radius setting. The asteroid models are still outside the radius but the 'central' location is not passable by ships. So I think you can move your ships through the asteroid model. Haven't tried it but I think its possible.

Stars are irrelevant. Fyron made a system type that has a huge planet at center instead of a Star. Besides stock has lots of things with no sun, but those also lack planets.

People who use those crystal resource generators will be fracked. Solar collectors also won't work. But that's about the extent of it.

One thing I thought of was to add a tiny sun at the center of Giant Stars to double it's resource "output".

Whenever I get back to working on my "Alternate Reality" mod, I'll take the idea and jump off the deep end with it. Smiling
