Remote Mining |
Can you use remote mining in a system with no planets? I'm not sure because there is no spaceport there.
thanks,
Brian
Re: Remote Mining
Resources produced by remote mining reach the imperial coffers with or without a spaceport present in the system.
Re: Remote Mining
The only requirement I have found for remote mining is that the mining ship must have at least 1 movement point. A space station with remote miners will not mine a thing.

Re: Remote Mining
I wasn't aware you needed a movement point. Are you sure your space station had supplies?
Re: Remote Mining
It is not engines but supply the mining station must have. I must admit I tend to forget this and build a mining station without any supplies and it doesn't work, until that is I refit it with some supply storage.

Re: Remote Mining
I have no idea about SEV but in SEIV remote mining modules will use supplies up if the ship has any but once those supplies are gone will happily continue working. I had thought it probably the same for SEV but you are saying thats changed now, Randallw?
Re: Remote Mining
Yes. The components say they need supplies and when there aren't any they run out. In devnull games I build starbases with lots of gatherers and every time I forget to give them supply storage. They don't work then. So I refit them with supply storage and they work, but they use supplies and I need supply depots to supply them. If there are too many ships the miners don't get enough supplies and they stop working. I assume it's not just in Devnull but that the supply needs are stock code.

Re: Remote Mining
SE5 did have the same bug as SE4 where you can remotely mine without supplies, but that was fixed several patches ago.
Re: Remote Mining
I could have sworn I built the space station the same way I built the baseship miners. I used supply generators instead of supply storage so I don't have to worry about resupplying them later.
I remember building the only one I tried in my home system so there was plenty of supply to go around, in addition to the supplu generators on the station. That was a long time back so maybe it'll work now.

Re: Remote Mining
Erm.... Interesting question, not sure. I've never used it myself.
