Why are my planets rioting?

Soumis par sillyperson le Mar, 2006-10-17 15:57 Space Empires V General

I have downloaded and installed the 1.08 patch. None of my planets loyalty are below 92% and I'm having an empicedim of riots accross two star systems! I have not met any other empires yet. On the planet informaiton screen I tried looking for moral but it doens't list it anywhere. I'd like to now what cuased the riots and how to stop them. I did create my race with a 5% happy bonus.

I don't have any of the problems the manual lists. My planets are just rioting.

Happyness bonus

Soumis par Phoenix-D le Mar, 2006-10-17 16:07

The happyness bonus is working backwards at the moment, so you're actually under a 5% happyness PENALTY. That's probably part of it.

I thought the patch fixed

Soumis par sillyperson le Mar, 2006-10-17 16:08

I thought the patch fixed that crap?

sigh

Soumis par Janster le Mar, 2006-10-17 16:11

I can't belive they didn't fix a game breaking bug with the first patch, but hey its not the first time I've met this.

For some reason its 'escaped' their notice despite being glaringly obvious, not sure what the beta's are doing hehe.

Anyway, choose the trait that ignores morale..and you can play the game.

I don't see it mentioned.

Soumis par Phoenix-D le Mar, 2006-10-17 16:20

I don't see it mentioned in the patch notes, so possibly not. I haven't tested it one way or the other.

It seems to have 'escaped'

Soumis par matryx le Mar, 2006-10-17 16:24

How rude!

It seems to have 'escaped' your notice that the beta testers are reporting many many bugs, believe me when I say everyone is well aware of the happiness bug - all you need to do is search the forums and you'll see for yourself - but there is a time-limit on what you can cram into a timeframe for patching. But take a look at the patch list - Do you think the fixes there have been worthless because the way you post sure sounds like it.

A better, more helpful solution would be to suggest modifying the files to reverse the values of the affected traits - which would allow someone to actually play properly.
Or even, do some more testing and provide a more detailed bug report. The patch has reported that amongst other things:
18. Fixed - Ability "Planet Population Happiness" was working backwards.
19. Fixed - Cleanup and fixups for happiness.

Now, it may well be that there are still bugs, but you could at least provide some useful feedback rather than slating the beta testers.
e.g. Was this game started before the patch or afterwards?
Which part of happiness seems to be failing?
Do you have a sample savegame to submit for review?

At least the OP gave some feedback and help identifying the bug rather than a pointless whine.
sillyperson: Can I recommend you e-mail the savegame to Aaron (se5@malfador.com) if it's a fresh game since the patch. If it isn't - can I recommend you start again, because I don't know how the savegames are stored - for all I know, old-datafile info may be stored amongst the savegames.

cough. Dude, play 20

Soumis par Janster le Mar, 2006-10-17 16:30

cough.

Dude, play 20 rounds, spot the bug, wasn't hard for me.

Now, asking people to mod their game to fix the problem is stretching it, however I heavily recommend the 'no emotions' racial trait which is 1 click of a button.

I respect the fact that the coder of this game is a 1 man army, but it was just 1 modding bug...according to your words Smiling

Fresh game

Soumis par Phoenix-D le Mar, 2006-10-17 16:37

Fresh game, post patch, the happyness trait is still working backwards. I modded it to 100 times as much effect, then ran a few turns.
Result: the race with positive happyness trait was angry. The race with NEGATIVE happyness trait was Jubilent.

By the way, those abilities don't refer to the racial trait at all, just the Urban Pacification Center (which I haven't tested yet).

Did you ignore most of my

Soumis par matryx le Mar, 2006-10-17 16:38

Did you ignore most of my post just for the hell of it?
I didn't suggest these things for a laugh you know.
Firstly - as I said people are well aware of the bug, especially the beta testers... my "spotting it" is irrelevant. Next, I never said it was a single modding bug, I said it could be fixed through modding - at least (now to clarify), the happiness bug as it stood before could be - as I said before you can search the forums (link on the left) to find the information.

Playing "No emotions" won't solve anything really - either you gimp your own game to pick a trait you may not have normally, or the AI players will suffer the same bug because they don't have the emotionless trait.

Now, as I said - succinct bug reports are the key here, even in patches things can change and a previous 'fix' may not be possible.
I would do it myself, but I'm awaiting shipping of my copy. Now, if you've finished being smarmy perhaps you could be a bit more useful?

try this...

Soumis par delijoe le Mar, 2006-10-17 16:41

Go into the racial traits file... and find "naturally happy" and "naturally depressed" and go to ability amount 1 formula lines and switch them (put -5 on naturally happy, 5 on naturally depressed) and see what happens...

If the facilities do the same thing, reverse those values as well...

So.. based on the demo

Soumis par matryx le Mar, 2006-10-17 16:53

So.. based on the demo files.
the ability "Planet Population Happiness" in facilities (description=Populations will grow happier in this system by [%Amount1%]% each turn (only 1 facility per system effective).) is working backwards.

What's the formula for that in the 1.08 files?

in the demo it is:

Number of Abilities         := 1
Ability 1 Type := Planet Population Happiness
Ability 1 Description := Populations will grow happier in this system by [%Amount1%]% each turn (only 1 facility per system effective).
Ability 1 Scope := System - This Player
Ability 1 Range Formula     := 0
Ability 1 Amount 1 Formula  := 1 + (([%Level%] - 1) * 0.5)
Ability 1 Amount 2 Formula  := 0

Edit: now what other happiness types / effects are there. Ones I can think of...
Racial Traits
Research (Cultural Achievements)
Events

The formula is the same.

Soumis par Phoenix-D le Mar, 2006-10-17 17:07

The urban pacification center was fixed.

The racial trait was not. I'm not sure why you even brought the UPC up..

Society happyness works fine; I haven't tested the other types.

switch values?

so fixing the racial trait is just a matter of switching the values, right?

Happiness

Soumis par Captain Kwok le Mar, 2006-10-17 18:31

The ability that is broken is the "Race - Happiness" ability used in the racial traits file - *sigh* I told Aaron that this was the broken one. Anyway you can substitute the Planet Population Happiness ability instead and it should be ok as that is what I used in the Balance Mod. I don't know if this will fix save games though...
