Hello,
Is it possible to access the tactical combat simulator in SE V from outside the standard game? Just for those times when one can only fit in a quick game.

If you want to just run a bit of a battle you have to start SEV. However you don't necessarily have to play the whole game.
Start a new game, or save a copy of one of your existing games. press the ` key (the one just before 1). then type alltech and ` again. This will give you all your tech and you can run tactical simulations for everything. You could do this anyway but having alltech lets you try everything, albeit at meaximum level. If you want to try specific racial techs just start a new game with an empire with that tech.
Testing the ruins techs is a bit of a pain as you have to actually find them first, although for all I know there might be another cheat command that gives you specific tech.
