Saved game file corruption in v1.74

Firstly, thanks to MM for attempting to deal with the (major) issue of saved game file corruption in the latest patch, its something that many of us seem to suffer from and can completely ruin an otherwise perfectly enjoyable campaign.

However, I started my latest game patched up to version 1.74 with BM 1.14b applied and after only 44 game turns, I try to load up my game today and I get that old familiar message 'cannot load ...'

So unfortunately it seems the problem is still apparent. Anybody else experiencing the same with v1.74? If need be I can email the save game file to MM (anybody have the address?) but the bottom line is that this critical flaw still needs to be fixed.

Not sure how much this affects the rest of you but to put it in perspective, EVERY game i've played has been killed off by save game file corruption. I know you can autosave every turn but most or usually all my previous autosaves seem to get killed off along with my main file.

Discuss?

Perhaps not everyone suffers from it, but it has been widely reported. My point was to establish that the problem is still apparent despite MM's (well received) efforts to fix it.

Hopefully, as it seems the issue is now a priority for fixing (shown by the attempted fix on the latest patch) we might be able to expect a working fix in one of the next patch releases.

I'm another one who has had the problem of faulty save games. I did report it and emailed Aaron with the files etc (under 1.71 - playing Unnamed Mod).
I was hopeful that the problem had been fixed under 1.74 but like you discovered the same old problem occuring. And, every game I've played has ended up like this.
Not sure what causes it (and judging by Aarons efforts to fix it, there may be multiple things) but it does seem prevalent in the Unnamed Mod (see this thread http://spaceempires5.com/en-US/node/5567)
so it may have something to do with the sheer number of units/ships that the mod (or mods) tends to create.

The Unnamed mod corrupt save game bug was due to a faulty AI design for satellites. It wasn't really an issue that MM could fix, but rather required a script fix by the mod's author.

Hi Kwok
Yes & no.
There was a problem with the AI Design scripting in the Unnamed Mod but we managed to fix that (Corellon posted a fix - but I fixed my own script after identifying the problem - the script was using small components on Sats).
There seems to be another fault in there somewhere. In my game on the same turn I got a working save game, and a faulty save game. That can't be script related since the scripting occurs in the turn processing.

Update: Just checked my last game (1.74) and the save games are the same. Early in the turn it saved ok, later in the turn in didn't. This is a game started under 1.71, so it is possible the problem has been introduced earlier......but that wouldn't make sense (well, to me anyway) if in the same turn one game works and the other doesn't.

If there is a guide or program that I can identify errors myself I'd be happy to.
