New To Multiplayer. |
Hi, I'm new to the game and have a question. I've posted here rather than in FAQ as I feel I'm more likely to get a helpful response to my first question here. So here goes:
Where can I find online games to join? I understand that I have to use Hamachi. Is there a programme or way of finding others looking for games? These forums seem rather quiet.
Also, if I do manage to find some people to play online with and I'm using a custom race portrait, will they be able to see it?
Re: New To Multiplayer.
Yea PBW is for all the online games - loads of games going all the time. They are email based so the files are all emailed around (from what i gather)You would use Hamachi to create a LAN over the internet, its basically adds a nic to your pc that you are able to tweak and config - allowing you to bi-pass/config all the firewalls and setup the LAN)
If you looking to play over a wireless config, setup is very easy. Same would go for the LAN setup.
Re: New To Multiplayer.
The Firewalls do not matter for SE5 (you can quite easily allow access for it); what matters is the end-router NAT issue. SE5's TCP/IP code does not properly identify IP addresses when behind a LAN, resulting in abortive communication attempts. Forwarding ports does not matter when the game reports the LAN IP to the host instead of the WAN IP.

Re: New To Multiplayer.
New, starting multiplayer games are generally advertised on this forum first though. So you can subscribe to that game at the www.pbw.cc site.
You can also test around with multiplay with games that are looking for a replacement player. It allows you to get a feel.
In 'Age of twilight' we need some players; It's a standard version 1.66 though. Perhaps we'll upgrade soon
I dunno.

PBW is where most gaming occurs.
