New PBW Game: JumpGates (All Tech / No Warp Points) |

Hi, all! I started a PBW game, and thought I'd advertise it here. So, here goes! The title of the game is "Jumpgates (All Tech / No Warp Points)".
~~~~~
Hi!
I've been wanting to do something interesting with SE:V for awhile now, so here goes: JumpGates... a catchy title if ever there was one! No warp points. All research is completed. Resources are finite. Players can only colonize breathable atmospheres of their home planet type. First to be the last one standing with a homeworld wins the game!
So, to elaborate a bit...
1) No warp points.
The medium, flower spiral galaxy will not start with any warp points, which means that players will be stuck in their starting systems until they develop ships and/or bases to open warp points to nearby systems. To facilitate this, each player starts with five homeworlds, so that their industry is sufficiently jumpstarted to allow the production of such massively expensive tools, and all technology has been researched, so that players won't have to actually research Stellar Manipulation, which takes literally forever. Also, as a house rule, the construction of System Gravitational Shield Facilities is strictly forbidden -- otherwise, the game would be unplayable. If anyone is caught building them, they will be telekeuthanised.
2) All research is complete.
I know I just said it in the above point, but this subject deserves its very own point: all research is complete. So don't worry about it. This will no doubt have unknown ramifications on game strategy, the depths of which are completely unknown to me. Completely unkown. Honest to Betsy, I don't know how this will change things! Isn't that crazy? I know... completely pƨyʗɧɵʈɨʗ! Tired of this rant? Me too!
3) Resources are finite.
Instead of a value determining how good a planet is at producing given resources, planets have a set amount of each resource contained within them. As you mine it, this amount goes down, and once it's gone, it's gone forever. I've always kind of wanted to try this one out to see how it plays, and now, hopefully, we'll have that chance! I expect this to make the grab for resources that much more frantic, as resources are constantly being depleted... I'm hoping for a gritty feel. But we'll see.
4) Players can only colonize breathable atmospheres of their home planet type.
This combination of rules means that players can only colonize planets that are both their atmospheric and compositional type -- for example, if you're a rock/oxygen combination (and really, who isn't?), you'd only be able to colonize rock/oxygen planets. This could be cool, because it's going to make colonies few and far between, and extremely valuable -- unlike your run of the mill colonies. It'll also place an increased emphasis on remote mining, which is a sexy, sexy topic. At any rate, it's another experimental factor.
Is that too many variables? Probably. But, this game will definitely be something new. At any rate, two things: roleplaying is totally encouraged, and please, only use stock shipsets and racial portraits. It just makes things easier.
So, if you're interested, you should totally join! Like, totally!
Re: New PBW Game: JumpGates (All Tech / No Warp Points)
Suggestion - we could start at the end of the galactic arms - the only problem is that means 8 players, no more, no less.
And that means everyone will know where the other players start... which might lead to complications.
No problem.
Re: New PBW Game: JumpGates (All Tech / No Warp Points)
Sounds very interesting...unfortunately I'm already in two PBW games, and I can't join another and put in a good effort on all of them.
Re: New PBW Game: JumpGates (All Tech / No Warp Points)
1.74 has not yet been installed on PBW...
we're just going with 4 then? ok, I'd better get my empire together.
So, when will this game start?
Re: New PBW Game: JumpGates (All Tech / No Warp Points)
Hi guys, I have always played SE5 solo but I am interested in joining this game. I have two questions.
1) If you choose a Racial trait such as Organic Technology, do you have to do research or is it all automatically available.
ii) As resources are finite, if you have no more storage space for resources such as minerals, will the produce from mines each turn be wasted?
AJO.
Re: New PBW Game: JumpGates (All Tech / No Warp Points)
1) Automatically available
2) Yes, it will be wasted. Though in BM the storage space is greatly increased.
This does sound like a fun game.
with the colony restrictions, I'll be building more troopships, to capture those alien colonys on worlds I otherwise could not inhabit!
When are you intending to try get it started? I wonder if I've got time to rush my shipset out and get it on pbw...
also, might be good to wait at least till 1.74 is installed on pbw anyway.
