Not seeing weapons platforms or troops on my planets

new to the game and trying to add weapons platforms and troops to planets, I create them, transport them, unload cargo and it shows in the cargo but doesnt show troops in the "Occupying troops on planet" area or in the solar system screen under the planet icon indicating the number of "units" on the planet. Stupid enemy has them why cant I? Any help would be appreciated
