Saving/Printing a Map

Soumis par Masek le Sam, 2008-05-03 05:46 Space Empires V General

Hi,

i would like to save/print a map of my empire. Currently i make
a screenshot, cut&paste the (enlarged) map and print it.

Is there a more intelligent way to do it? I would like to have
mineral levels and special facilities on the map.

Thanks, Martin

The way you are doing it is probably the best way already.

Hi,

Thanks for the quick answer Cpt. Kwok.

If this is the best way, i have to optimize it. So i tried
around a bit lately and here's how i got the optimal result
(for me):

1. Take a screenshot while having the map enlarged. Set it to
the information level you want.

2. Cut & Paste the Map area from the screenhot as a new Image.

3. Convert the new image to greyscale.

4. Invert the image (convert to negative)

5. Print it in landscape format and enlarge to max. size.

I'm using PaintShop Pro X to do it. But any picture editing
software with minimum functionality should do too.

Afterwards i scribble my notes onto the paper Eye-wink. Could do
it inside the saved image but it's not too readable to begin
with.

Sincerely yours, Martin

If you right-click in any sector of a system and choose "System Report", there is a section for adding notes.

Notes are the way to go with so much tweaking every turn.

I find it faster to left click the System Report icon (planet over clipboard). OTOH, I also find the in-game notes a PITA to use because I can't move the cursor in the text box; I have to backspace to anything I want to change, then retype everything I had to erase to get there. (Clicking in the text box, or using the arrow keys, doesn't work, at least on my system.)

Hi,

thanks for the input. I knew the function to add notes to a
system and i use it. But for the high level planning my mind
needs all combined into a map Laughing out loud. Therefor i use a printout
of the map and coloured pencils. Guess i'm a bit outmoded.

I came to SE5 from Stars! and worked the same way there Eye-wink.
We play about 2-5 turns per week and i needed a quick way
to re-aquire an overview over my empire. Since i won nearly
all matches, i can't be the worst method Smiling.

I used paint to add little details to the map (like war fronts, etc, important ship movement lines, etc...) - but your way is even better, though harder to erase.
