Cloaking a planet? |
In SE IV I once created a cloaking device that would hide not just a unit or a ship from view, but an entire sector, so I could place cloaking satalites above all my planets to suit my Xenophobe style of playing, and literally avoid all contact with other races (to them my systems where just empty space)
Now, I am afraid that SEV's modding method is a bit complicated for me, I tried and tried again, but I simply don't seem to get hold of it ^^ so I am wondering, if this can be done in SEV as well? and if so...how?
Thanks in advance.
Re: Cloaking a planet?
Could you make this into a facility that uses some min and lots of radio each turn.
Re: Cloaking a planet?
All facilities use resources each turn via maintenance.. If that's not enough, you may be able to use negative resource production ability values to further eat resources.
Re: Cloaking a planet?
Star Trek had a planet like that once. If I recall correctly the shield also caused infertility. Perhaps you could have a facility but it stops population growth.

Oooo, I like this idea! I have some new tech for the next version of DevnullMod now

Re: Cloaking a planet?
yea how come us modders never come up with completly different stuff like that lolz planet cloaking does sound like a good idea now what should ppl call the facility? cause it cant just be called a cloaking device it has to sound like a building name hmm..
Re: Cloaking a planet?
hmm, a cloaking facility, perhaps?
Re: Cloaking a planet?
Planetary cloaking facility.
Or sector cloaking facility, if you make one that doesn't just do the planet.
Re: Cloaking a planet?
What do you call a building that is itself cloaked and thus you see area to build in reduced but unless you have security clearance you do not know why.
Re: Cloaking a planet?
The more important question is how would you implement such a thing..
Re: Cloaking a planet?
Here's a question.
How does someone hide the mass/gravity well of an entire planet?Can't simply cancel out the gravity above the planet, because then it would be a pain in the but to keep stuff in 'orbit' around the planet.
To bad there are apparently no seperate scan types like in SE IV.
Would be interesting to have the cloak have low cloak value vs. psychic sensors (lots of people) and temporal sensors (wow, there used to be a plant there in the past, and there's a dead world with ruins there in the future, so it must be there now!), while tachyon sensors show the debris created by a fellow scout ship that just ran into and impacted 'something' over in the nearby sector of apparently empty space...
Related question.
Can someone use Stellar Manipulation to create a (hopefully non-damaging) nebula in the same sector as a planet, to hide a planet and other things within the sector?

Re: Cloaking a planet?
Yes, you can create those little storms wherever you want... their effects seem to be random though, so you might want to be a storm destroyer as well in case you get a damaging one by mistake!

Re: Cloaking a planet?
hey i dont get modding at all but it sounds a good idea good luck with it.

Re: Cloaking a planet?
Yes, in exactly the same way as in SE4, by copying the sector-level cloaking ability from storms:
Ability 2 Chance := 1000
Ability 2 Type := Sight Obscuration
Ability 2 Description := Sector [%ScopeSector%] is opaque to most scanners.
Ability 2 Scope := Sector - All
Ability 2 Range Formula := 0
Ability 2 Amount 1 Formula := 10
Ability 2 Amount 2 Formula := 0
Interestingly, you can make it only cloak your own objects now by toying with the scope (eg: Sector - This Player). Look at page 42 of the modding doc for a complete list.
IIRC you can just use a Space Object scope Sight Obscuration on a facility and cloak just the planet directly. You might also be able to use the Cloak Level ability instead, and get cloaking that can be turned on and off.
