Noob Woes

Soumis par TwoTired le Jeu, 2008-04-17 01:47 Space Empires V General

Hello community- SEV Noob here (old SE3/SE4 player). From searching and reading posts, I gather bugs, etc. are well addressed.

I do have a couple of questions- I am in the year 2411.9 of my first 'stock'/standard game. When I try to use the combat simulator now the ships and graphics on the selection list are screwed up (left side of screen) making it impossible to select ships to test. Once I attempt this action (the simulator), if I try to reload a previous save game it refuses with an error message. If I exit the game, I get a mysterious Access Violation error in SE5.exe module message upon exit. I can then restart SEV and load a savegame, but returning to the simulator will reproduce the errors. I attempted to reinstall the application along with the Version 1.71 patch again--but the error reproduces itself.

Is my savegame now forever corrupted and doomed to failure?

I see a number of folks recommending mod's for game balance. That's fine for balance, but do the mod's fix these corruption errors as well?

I can live with slack AI, but I don't want to commit time to the game if my savegame is destined to fail to some error before the conclusion of the game.

Thanks ahead of time for any insights.

I guess you should send your savegame to malfador with the issue.

I've seen something similar: My game on older version crashed, whenever I scrolled upon certain enemys ships in simulator (whe the pictures came out).

If you have the capacity, you could try to run some turns (unable to say how many), and try the simulator again. This worked for me. I think it was about single design, or something similar, and once that design was obsolete and removed the simulator worked again.

You could just run the turns on minimal processing, and see after 10, 20 or 30 turns if this helps. If it does, you know your problem will clear itself later, and you just need to skip the simulator for now.

Thanks for your comments. I started this game (my first) with a clean copy of Version 1.71. No mods, changes, or patches since.

LordDemon's comment struck me as interesting, "I think it was about single design, or something similar, and once that design was obsolete and removed the simulator worked again."

How do you remove a design completely? If I make it obsolete, the design remains available in the simulator.

You have to make obsolete the whole design type, not a single design and then, after several turns, I have no idea how many, it will just vanish.

I'd actually like a "forget" option to ship designs. Would be easier, if we could just get rid of the all first turn computer designs, and only keep the newer ones.

The simulator will remember until the turn after no more ships exist that use that design on the map IIRC

As I have no idea what design is causing the problem, I guess I am off to obsolete them all. I hope it is not an AI design causing the issue.

Also it seems to not get rid of them if you have any ships NAMED after that design.

Might try setting graphics to "safe mode". This helps a lot of things - not sure it'll help in this case.
