Give us some informations please SF1 |
I have no problems, if a patch is delayed but I believe I am not the only one, who would appreciate some informations from the official publisher of SE V:
- When will the patch be available for download from your website?
- Will there be a "download and play the full game today" option from SF 1 (the option is on your website, but not active at present)? If yes, when?
Thank you very much for your reply,
hopefully a future customer

Was posted but sort of lost...
Clare from SFI posted about the patch being released today in one of the other "patch" threads.
I'd imagine the delay was on MM's part, as I know he had to do the patch in for a couple of versions (retail, steam) and a new updated Demo.

...
I imagine that is true as well. All the more reason MM needs to get off his I do not visit sites and post what is going on with "his" game.
Kwok, I am thankful for all you have done for the community. Just think if you were not here trying to cover MM's backside; no one would have any clue about anything.
MM cares less that people have no information, or I can draw no other conclusion by his actions.
This is a new day and maybe, just maybe he needs to start doing things in new manner. Like showing common courtesy to his user base and letting them know what is happening.
Posting 15-30 Minutes each week in a locked thread that only he can post in would go a long way to actually appearing that he cares about this community and what is taking place with his game.
He does not have to answer anyone's question directly, but have a thread where he gives information and updates.
People would appreciate it and give a lot of latitude if he did this bare minimum.

Over the last week or two
Over the last week or two the amount of content on this forum has exploded, almost exponentially to the number of users I've seen. If Aaron were to post for 15-30 minutes a week, how do you propose he find out which points should be responded to? I know already I've fallen by the wayside and no-longer read every thread.
If he doesn't pick topics - then people will just complain that he doesn't read their posts while he's active on the forum, and so the cycle repeats itself.... If he then went to start replying to particular posts (in his weekly digest) we'd get the same thing by those who didn't get their posts replied to.... Do you see the problem?
Generally, people are never satisfied. As you say, Kwok is doing a great job providing answers where available - and because he does, Aaron doesn't need to (allowing Aaron more time to actually do the developing). I don't think it's rude of him to not sit on the forums with his userbase as you imply... I'd rather he was working than chatting

For sure, we would all
For sure, we would all rather have the developer working than chatting, but how hard would it be to write a short blog ro something so we know what they are up to.
I wouldn't expect the blog to address everything in the forums, thats not what it would be for, it would be so we could at least know what the developers are currently addressing.
Obviously the developers have some idea of what they want to achieve in a particular time frame, and obviously they must have some form of criteria for how they prioritise things. I'm not asking them to change any of those things, just asking them to provide some feedback to the community.
It would certainly save on much of the speculation occurring, who knows maybe it would provide a source of more positive userbase feedback than the largely negative feedback we are currently seeing.
Hell even an introductory blog article that lets us know who the developers are, and how they work on SE5 would be more than interesting.
Being a software developer myself, i totally understand the pressures of deadlines placed on one by publishers, customers and colaborators, however even still with these deadlines i would manage to find 10mins a day to type a couple sentances regarding what i was up to.

Comments on Feedback etc.
Keep in mind the beta histories are posted minutes after they become available at this site, which pretty much sums up what has been done in the past week.
However I'll pass on some comments about Aaron perhaps posting a weekly blog or something since the site has that functionality. I wouldn't expect to contain anything earth-shattering though.
I think more importantly is that SE5.com's Ops need to post a news item or something when they become aware of a delay or something. If anything it will stop people from sending me PMs asking for info.
Note that Julian, one of the ops, does make regular appearances throughout the day on the #SpaceEmpires IRC channel.

I'm sorry but if "You'll have the patch today. Now calm down and have some tea." is the official answer regarding the patch I'm a bit upset. I'm patient and can tolerate a delay, I can even tolerate no answer, but to be given such a condescending reply doesn't seem right
Im sure it wasn't meant to
Im sure it wasn't meant to offend, y'all need to relax.

Developer Blog Introduction
Developer: Aaron Hall, mastermind of SEV. Man on the scene. Master coder who made SE III&IV smashing hits. Only coder available to the SE universe, and solo man of MM.
There are 10 types of people in the world:
Those that understand binary, and those that don't.
That man is a genius
Well if thats the case, then that man is a genius.
These games are great (bugs aside of course), but considering how much stuff does work its not a bad effort for going solo.
With this info and a small blog entry every now and again i'm sure the masses would be much more patient and comfortable with what is happening.
That would be much appreciated
That would be much appreciated. No worries if it isn't anything earth-shattering, even just something to say tickitee-boo now and again would be sweet.
Cheers

Oh...
I think he did get a little help with developing the graphics, but I'm reasonably sure he did 100% of the code himself.

Small tidbits
Aaron does all the programming and design, but does contract out the artwork.

Like I posted elsewhere, it looks like the delay was the extra 17 fixes added in the 1.08 version...
Too bad I didn't get the 1.08 version beforehand though - this will delay the next version of the Balance Mod until later tonight...

Noooooooooooo!
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!

Calm down :)

Yeah, I mean how hard would
Yeah,
I mean how hard would it be to have someone say "Patch Delayed, expect it next Monday".
Half the problem is not knowing anything.
I long for the day when software developers/publishers actually show some respect to their customers.
Then again, the most basic of things can be rather difficult for some people.
