Mines and satelites in 1.71 |
I noticed that 1.71 seems to have limit of max 100 mine/satellites per space, even though the space unit max is much higher.
Is this on purpose, or is it some sort of bug? Second, can this be changed in the settings somehow? I didn't see any in the game setup other then the max units/space, which seems to have no effect on this.

One is the max per sector (that you can put in any sector), and the other is how many you can have as an empire.

Ummm.
Isn't 100 mines a bit on the lowish side? I mean 2 top level mine sweepers clear 84 mines.
I know I can change it and all, but for multiplayer purposes, I would like basic game to have higher limit.
100 mine limit is like trying to make the atlantic wall with one bunker and twenty meters of barbed fire IMO.
That's why I love the idea of mines that don't auto-explode or auto-clear but must be engaged in combat instead. It means that even if you have an overwhelming minesweeping force, they will still provide a distraction, so they never become completely useless like standard mines. I can't remember who thought of it (not me) but THANK YOU...what a fun idea.

Balance mod for 1.71, and 1.71, I'm able to deploy 300+ mines from one ship in the same sector ... either BM has a higher limit, or else the limit isn't being enforced.

Look into VehicleUnitTypes.txt in the BM directory and you will see: 500 for mines, 200 for satellites and 1000 for fighters
Claim victory in your heart and the Universe will follow

That is intentional. However, you can change this. In this file - Data>VehicleUnitTypes.txt you'll see this line;
Maximum In Space Per Player Per Sector := 100
Change this to your desired number. Oh, mines and satellites are the first units on this list. Hope that helps.
