Newbie question: Countering fighters |
Hi,
i just started with SE5 and my impression is, that fighters are vastly superior (in terms of combat related to ressources) than any ship type.
I started a game with all tech available and designed a heavy fighter armed with missiles. Then i tried to design a ship type that could fight off those fighters. Even allocating twice the ressources to the ship than i did for the fighters, i failed miserably. Neither frigates nor baseships (even when armed only with point defense weapons) could stand against fighters costing only half as much.
Probably i'm doing something wrong? How would something like a proper "flak cruiser" look like?
How does my fighter look like: Fighter Design

I have never played stock for many reasons and when I see such a design I can only tell you one thing: it is not worth your time.

Re: Newbie question: Countering fighters
I have had some success since reading this strand - the Flak Cannon when over level 20 suddenly stops fighters coming to close into your main ship positions and coupled with your own fighters I found the fleet's enemy fighters can become easy to pick off.
The other thing I found that counters fighter usefulness is decent shielding coupled with recharging, phased output and emissive armour giving you more balance along your defense strategy.

I want to ask you, why you put only 3 engeenes to your fighter?
It became more powerfull, but too slow.

Re: Newbie question: Countering fighters
In stock, fighters are vastly overpowered. You should play Balance Mod, if you want to have fighters which are not able to pawn everything.
