Mouse response

Soumis par MarkEBacon le Ven, 2006-09-22 18:44 Space Empires V General

Mouse response in the demo seems to be a little off as if the mouse doesn't respond as quickly or precisely as it should -- almost as if it has a "floating" quality to it. I've used both a Gyration Ultra wireless and an older USB wired and it's the same thing. I'm just wondering if anyone else noticed it or has suggestions on what might be causing it.

SLI Problem(s)

Soumis par Sinistar le Ven, 2006-09-22 20:12

Do you have a SLI setup? I do and the more graphics on the screen the worse mouse movement got. If you turn off SLI mode, then everything works fine. I would definately list this as a bug.

No SLI and it's not

Soumis par MarkEBacon le Ven, 2006-09-22 21:01

No SLI and it's not something that get's better or worse. It's not really even bad, more annoying. When the mouse changes direction it's a smooth transition on screen but it's like the mouse is running a barely noticeable half-second behind what it should. I thought it might be an acceleration problem with the mouse but that wasn't it. It doesn't make the demo unplayable by any means.

I agree. I experience this

Soumis par Wade le Ven, 2006-09-22 22:40

I agree. I experience this quirk too. I posted this at www.shrapnelcommunity.com.

"-----In some areas like Planet Report screen, Facilities tab, the mouse pointer lags/jumps, it's not smooth movement."

Compare the game pointer movement to the Microsoft Windows movement. The game movement is a little...odd. It's a slight annoiance that distracts some what from getting immersed into the game completely.

Maybe this is good for game addicts?

Safe mode.

Soumis par MageKing17 le Sam, 2006-09-23 11:11

Changing video to "safe" mode fixes almost all video problems, and I'm pretty sure someone fixed this problem with it.

Slow Mouse

Soumis par ckotchey le Mar, 2006-09-26 10:20

Yes, I immediately noticed this too - as if the mouse's position isn't being updated on the screen fast enough (i.e. as fast as it does in a "normal" windows environment), or as if it's taking extra CPU power to move the mouse cursor - hard to describe.

Setting my video to "safe" mode had no effect on the movement of the mouse for me. Very annoying, and tends to cramp me up a bit when using my trackpoint on my thinkpad.

Pointer Size

Soumis par tmcc le Mar, 2006-09-26 12:55

My biggest issue with the mouse is the pointer shape and size, especially in tactical combat. It dwarfs the size of the ships unless you really zoom in. Obviuosly this can be fixed with a mod.

I've got smaller pointers...

Soumis par Captain Kwok le Mar, 2006-09-26 13:17

I've actually made small pointers already. But I really think it needs to move to real cursors though. I'll post them later at SE.net...

Safe mode didn't help me

Soumis par MarkEBacon le Mar, 2006-09-26 17:15

Safe mode didn't help me either. I've checked to make sure DirectX is up to date. My video drivers are up to date. Windows XP is up to date. And my system well exceeds the minimum system requirements -- P4 3.0ghz, 1gb Ram, 256mb ATI video card. I'm just glad others have noticed it.

i started out running in

Soumis par hopfyz le Mar, 2006-09-26 21:44

i started out running in 'auto' but i had the problems with the graphics being garbled, so i switched to 'safe' thats when i noticed that the mouse was messed up and jumping around like you said, and at the time i was listening to windows media player, and every time it would switch songs, and pop up the little info window that has the song artist ect. the mouse would start jumping around, but once the window dissapeared, the mouse moved like normal, its kind of annoying, but since i love the game, i can deal with it, but still its annoying

I've found that the mouse

Soumis par Brad le Mer, 2006-09-27 01:16

I've found that the mouse works fine except in the Damage tab of the Ship window, where it jumps around instead of scrolling smoothly.

I don't have a problem with

Soumis par MarkEBacon le Mer, 2006-09-27 10:22

I don't have a problem with mouse stutter. What I noticed almost looks like the mouse reacts a fraction of a second behind any change in direction. It's scrolls smoothly but the effect is hard to describe and isn't very noticeable -- it's just a minor annoyance.

Interesting. I will have to

Soumis par Faithful le Mer, 2006-09-27 10:36

Interesting. I will have to pay closer attention as I can not recall any issues myself.
