What does 'Point Blank' mean?

As subject, I'm new to this game, what's 'Point Blank' in the strategy mean?

By the way, what's the difference with Kamikaze and Ram? Aren't they just sacrificing attack?

Point Blank means shooting your guns from as close as possible.

I believe it's an old archery term. It means you're close enough to point (aim) your weapon directly at the blank (white center of the target), rather than having to worry about gravity, wind, etc... You're so close to the target that those factors are negligible.

I think kamikaze includes a warhead and is from smaller to bigger ships ( kamikaze fighters hitting a cruiser, titanic hitting the iceberg )

and ramming is from bigger to smaller ship .. ( car on the rails, fisherboat meets a armored cruiser )

but thats just guessing Smiling

Point Blank = In your face. I use this all the time as it allows me to close with the target and stay close. Weapons generally do more damage close up. Of course, this works both ways but I design my ships to give and take the abuse. Smiling

Hmm, I'm not certain there is an obvious difference between the two.
I'm guessing here, but the difference is likely in how the ship or unit set to each strategy determines which target to hit.

Click the crown icon, then scroll down on the left-most column. (from the main screen of course)
Click and examine, each strategy found there. There are many variables

I've found such glaring problems between what I think it means, and what the game thinks it means.

Allso, gamewise, Point blank simply tells your ships to get close enough to Ram, but shoot them instead.
I think it's actually how fighters work.

Hi,

"Point blank" means the optimal distance to fire. Early cannon tended to
overshoot at shorter distances, so getting the enemy to near was not
considered a good shooting range (beside some other disadvantages as
bayonets scratching the gunners).

In the 19th century, point blank range for cannon lay between 200 and
1000 yards. The term was created fo the white point designating a flat
trajectory (and has nothing todo with the white in the eye of the enemy).

There is another definition in forensics, where a "point blank" shot
means leaving gun residue on the target but not close enough for a
contact shot. There point blank is about 1m.

Sincerely yours, Martin
