Treaties? |
I feel really stupid, but I can't seem to create any treaties. I have discovered other empires and tried sending them a treaty proposal, but they never respond, and now they're starting to get really ticked off at me. I have tried this several times, and it never seems to work. Would someone please be kind enough to un-confuse me and help me spread peace throughout the galaxy?
Re: Treaties?
Here's another silly idea: Do you accidentally hit another button besides "Send Message"? Can't tell you how many times I've done this and wondered where my treaties went.

Re: Treaties?

Re: Treaties?
i get that too. and they just end up getting pissed and going to war. i've found if you just don't talk to them or interact they eventually become receptive and then you can usually get a trade pact with them. and some non-agression. asking for more and they get pissed again.
Re: Treaties?
How is your score compared to them ?
In my current game, I am relativly low in the score department ( i am third now by turn 55 )
and I get flooded by treaties, every other empire I meet sends me an invitation.
In most cases I don't send the treaty request for myself, but I wait for the AI to decide if the want a treaty with me.
After I established some non-agression treaties ( trade about 10-15 %, non aggression in non-colony systems ) as offered by the AI, I managed to turn them into some pretty abusive ones.
other empire gives me all their tech, including racial ones, trade up to 30%, population only travels to my empire, map charts, ship designs .. all one sided.
It helps if you accept some things you don't really care about, shared medical care, shared supply ( it's pretty funny because of the non aggression only in non colony space
)
At the moment some of the empires want out of their treaty, but I can play the ignorant tool too, and as long as we are discussing the terms the treaty stays the same.
The best treaty I ever signed was for a fellow organic empire which suffered away on the lowest score( I play with all player scores ) and I gave them all my tech, now they went from 3 to 8 planets
I feel pretty good about them, but I don't know If they are neutral or not

Re: Treaties?
I find that I can get treaties with the computer players pretty reliably, that at least hold for a little while.
Two things that I do:
(1) Whenever I meet a race who colonizes planet types that I don't know, I offer a trade - my colonization tech for theirs. So my Rock for their Ice/Gas. Repeat until I have all 3. These trades, when offered immediately on first contact, almost always succeed.
(2) Assuming that I like the race, and mostly this means that they breathe air different from my own, then I offer my standard "Cooperation Agreement". The terms are:
- trade at 10-15% (too high and they turn it down - I don't get that),
- non-aggression in colony systems (they really like that, and its a minor concession in my mind),
- mutual migration
If I can work the tech swap with a race, then the other treaty invariably follows. Doing that tech swap definitely builds some goodwill.
One interesting and unexpected discovery I made in my most recent game - having migration treaties with 3 races of the same air breathing type isn't redundant or bad. I discovered that I would colonize a planet of that air type, and all 3 would send migratory delegations. A very happy situation when I colonize a planet, and there over 150M people there the next month
I'll have to look into the idea of using an initial agreement such as the one I discuss above as leverage once we have an amiable / receptive relationship to a more complete and one sided relationship. I haven't tried too much with the negotiate new treaty process, and assumed that treaties got cancelled, but if the old one is in force until cancelled or a new one agreed to.... very useful!

Re: Treaties?
Yeah, I end up totally raping the AI. Just shamefully taking advantage of them without hesitation. Of course, CaptainKwok will probably be ending that. Apparently, he's fixing the treaty rape thing with either 1.15 or maybe the next iteration.
Way I do it now is make the normal NA/Trade agreement, then once they sign that, I immediately redo the treaty and stick in all sorts of non-issue things I'll readily let them have - no planet destroying (just my empire is bound by it but the AI don't do stellar manipulation anyways, lol), no sabotage (I don't use it) etc etc. Crap like that. With enough of those "concessions" you can bump up the trade to max, have migration only to you and have them give you all their current techs and you give them nothing. Really, all I want is the colonization tech without my having to trade mine for it or (god forbid) research it myself and the migration thing.
That little strat is probably a thing of the past now, heh.

Re: Treaties?
You're not only cheating the AI, but cheating yourself when you use exploits like that.
Yes, I will close up those loopholes of players manipulating the AI with treaty elements that are not in play.
Re: Treaties?
Well heck Astorax - why not trade em straight up for their colonization tech? You're just going to move in 6 months later with ground troops and an invasion fleet! Gives em time to plant a few extra colonies for you to capture

Re: Treaties?
Actually, I always glass (have been persuaded by Fyron and SJ to give invasion a try though). I don't want them able to colonize all the other planet types. Also, I don't want them able to undome my atmosphere type planets. I come in, glass wherever I need to glass and move on. Colonize the juiciest planet for a resupply depot/spaceyard planet. I don't care about any of their other tech, even their weapons tech, I just want the colonization techs really. I take care of my own weapons tech and just like screwing them out of their colonization tech for laughs. If I don't have to research it, that means I'm using that research for other, more important, things.
Re: Treaties?
Astorax - I've been seeing alot of similarities in our thought and playing styles. I hope we never meet in a PBW game.

Re: Treaties?
Well, we just might, Vince. I've been thinking of getting into some PBW games since PBC games are not the fastest things in the world, lol. 1 turn a week max . Still haven't taken the plunge yet but probably will soon.

Re: Treaties?
One issue I like to bring in relation to this topic is trying to get a ceasefire during war. My death squadrens (oh my a typo I meant Expedtionary missionaries) have grown tired of going to planet to planet enforcing the right etc. Both sides (mine and their's) are practically exausted and I want to achieve some form of non aggression that can get them to stop attacking, time to rebuild and trade. What are the best steps to build up better realtions and to ge them to accept a treaty?
Also any tips dealing witch races who aren't at war with you but diplomatically they are so angry that any gift you give 'angers them'
Re: Treaties?
The empire i play is a cloned race of mostly female humanoids, with me as their supreme leader of course, i figure females don't like ugly things, so anything whos race portrait looks disgusting.. i kill, i gotta make my people happy, what can i say. i am also an atheist so i don't really like religious races either.
Re: Treaties?
I don't like resource trade as is, at all. It is basically free resources out of thin air. What would make sense, IMHO, is to trade excess resources (i.e. minerals for organics) automatically. Excess here means if stockpiles are full and change is positive.
The treaty spamming can get really annoying sometimes.
Did not play too much, but I decided that making peace with the AI is next to impossible. At least it makes me smile when the AI starts threatening like unless I withdraw from system Z... nevermind that we are at war.
Re: Treaties?
I prefer to make treaties with minor races. THAT can get you some really good benefits. This of course assumes that you DON'T make a one-sided treaty. One of my favorites, but only for minors, is TOTAL tech trade. why? this gives you everything they've got, and everything they'll research later. Saves me the effort of researching a bunch of minor techs I don't really need, but use anyways.

Re: Treaties?
yeah... you are right... and other races do not have yours techs...
Minor races, full of your techs, can't leave their native system, so they are not dangerous..
It is the best strategy for crushing other non-minor races
I use it too
Re: Treaties?
Vince and astorax, I'll play a game with you guys. I just joined one called old empire reborn on seiv.pbw.cc (it host SEV as well). It's a 10 player game and there are 5 open spots. Care to join?

Re: Treaties?
(As obvious as these questions seem, they're the only explanation I can think of for getting no response at all.)
Are you using the Set Treaty Elements button to define the treaty terms before you Send Message?
On the Set Treaty Elements screen, are you toggling on the terms heading(s) as well as setting the options? (i.e. clicking "Non-Aggression" and "in all systems", rather than just the latter)
