More useful planet icons...

Soumis par Crian le Ven, 2008-02-29 18:56 Space Empires V General

I have a suggestion for Malfador regarding the interface which would greatly help in the gameplay and seems simple enough to be added via a patch.

Right now, when looking at planets, when one is colonizable you see either a small green or red circle with a triangle inside on the upper left of the planet right? The problem is it makes no distinction between rock, gas and ice planets. This can be a pain when there are lots of systems.

Why not enforce a simple variation in the icons to distinguish between the three? Example, a circle with a triangle for rock, a circle with another circle inside for ice, and maybe a circle with a wavy line inside for gas. Just to make things less confusing, don't you agree?

I like it. I'm in favor of anything that will make the game easier and go faster. The less clicks I have to make the better. Smiling

Nice touch yeah Smiling

Why not combine it with the send colonizer option from the planet menu.
Right click on the planet and click on colonize. This will send the nearest, free colony ship with the right module to colonize the planet.

Even better! Laughing out loud

I noticed that this was a problem when I entered a system with a dozen or so planets and I had all 3 colonizing techs (acquired through trading). Anyway, as you can imagine, it was a bit of a pain to manage all those colonizers coming from all over my empire to converge on their proper planets.

So yeah, implementing my suggestion combined with juju's would be awesome indeed. I hope Malfador reads this...

Okay .. but you did it the long way Smiling

You could also use the Planets Menu, sort the planets by system and make a custom setup,

mine shows - planet picture, planet name, size, type, atmosphere and ships enroute Smiling

another shows the same but with planet values .. but its easier to look at it by right click
than to change the view.

my filter is colonize empty, sometimes colonize breathe,

and all I have to do is build colonizers ( i can count how many i need )
and click on send colony ship Smiling

You can select The "ship enroute' selection from the Planet list.

This will show you which planets have colonizers arriving, where they are, and how long until they arrive.

And there is that "send colonizer" button to dispatch idle colonizers.

I would suggest a simpler R-G-I in a circle. The Circle color is based on the atmosphere, not the planet type.

I like the BM because I can tell the atmosphere from the color of the planet glow.

nice, i didn't know balance mod had that nifty little feature, stock sure didn't! R-G-I is good too. I didn't know about the "send colonizer" button either.... thanks!

still, the main map could really use a little more icon variety at the very least to more easily distinguish between rock, ice and gas planets. Smiling

I realize you were probably joking but your comment does remind me that all of our postings here hoping that Aaron might be watching may just be like [ *edit* ] in the wind.

I apologize for that comment ahead of time... Smiling
