modding display settings

I'm sure everyone is familiar with the window for displaying all planets you've scouted. You're probably also familiar with how you can change the layout of the information displayed there. However there are only a few default layouts, and I personally don't like them.

Is it possible to change them so that the game automatically starts with the one I want to set things to?

Do they get saved with the empire if you save it in-game?

The ones that I make while playing do. It's that I want to mod the game so that the display setups I use are available from the menu. recreating them each time I play is annoying.

I'm currently guessing that it can't be done, but I'm not sure, thus I'm asking to make sure.
