I wonder if...

Soumis par pyroman le Mer, 2008-02-13 01:49 Space Empires V General

If it could be possible to make a game set up so a lot more of the items are racial tech. Yes this would mean a crystal based life form would have depleted cannons, that would be used by the humans, on the air breathing planets along with nuclear weapons...this would add a rp style to the game, of course some new components would have to be made to balance things a bit and it might narrow down what the ai would research because in stock they dont seem to get past lvl 20 weapons really...Im not sure if they research like everything but weapons and armor or if they just like stop all together =.=

oh and as for boarding and capturing techs, I think it would be cool if racial techs opend up techs that arent "racial" so some things could be analyzed and put to work for you, but in order to get much high levels of that technology you need it to be unlocked by a racial trait, or just capture a ship with a high level of the tech your looking for

If you are saying that it would be cool if most of the techs were race specific then I'd agree. It would be alot of work but it wouldn't be hard to do. Smiling

If your wanting to expand the tech choices for racial choices, don't do so at the expence of those that don't play those choices. IE: Selecting Organic, Temporal, Crystalline, etc. EXCLUDES you from following XXX tech branch.

What you want is similar to the SE4 Star Trek Mod, where I believe they have seperated Techs into various strands based on race. There is a General Race tree, that everyone has access too, and specialised tech (i.e. Federation has Federation Tech, Klingon has Klingon tech, etc).

As of yet I dont think anyone has modded this yet for SE5. As Vince278 says, nothing is stopping anyone, it'd just take a lot of time to do. I personality would like it too.

Clarify please. This is somehow confusing to me.
Do you mean, that should you choose, for example, Crystalline, that you could then no longer be able to use Organic, or Null-tech?

If so, cool.

If not, cooler.

As to the general concept? I'm actually working on something similar.

Something else you could try however, and code AI's to match.
Make it so there are no racial techs. Instead, the special techs are found through combinations of other technologies.
(IE: ORGANIC MANIPULATION is accessed through a level or two in Biology, and three or four levels in Construction and Industry. CRYSTALLURGY, through Industry, Construction and Physics.)
The "Racial tech" would merely be allowing you to begin the game with a level in the selected Tech.

True, either way requires a fairly radical re-build of the Tech-Tree, and some new technologies and their requisite rewards.

If you have SEIV, check out a mod called Imperium Verus. It does exactly as you stated there Lord Aries. Its rather a cool mod too. You can be anything you want if you research the proper techs.

There are SEIV mods that give you components and facilities that are only available if you take two racial techs. (Unfortunately, I'm utterly blanking on an example.) I don't know if any SEV mods have done something similar.

Pirates and Nomads had the best crossover techs. There was also Devnull, and I think Dark Nova had some.

Doing, and it does seem interesting. I'll likely play it a bunch.
