Game hang in BM 1.13 |
Hi,
I just started a new game with BM 1.13 (SEV 1.66) and encountered a problem. Sometime, when it's the Sergetti's turn to play, the game hangs. There is no progress bar at all. I waited 20 min. to see if it will resume eventually but nothing happened. The other three empires seems to work just fine. Those are the Abbidon, the Xiati and the Cue Cappa. Captain, if you know a simple solution I can apply, I would be gratefull. Otherwise, I will wait for the next version of your mod.

just thought I'd pop on to let you know that I too have experienced this, I've downloaded the game recently and was reading up about it and that the AI was a bit rubbish so downloaded the latest BM version (thanks btw, it's far better than vanilla) but while the computer players' turns were being calculated the game would freeze on the seventh opponent - this happened to be the only one I'd encountered at the time - it wouldn't even get to loading the bar for it just sat there as soon as that player's turn came up.
The freeze occured a number of times so I soon learnt to auto-save every go but I think it might be due to the intelligence bug as I'd heard about it with unnamed's mod so gave it a go and as soon as I took my intelligence points away from espionage empire wide it hasn't occured since. As I'm new to all this I'm not sure if there's somewhere I should report this to so let me know if there's more I can do (other than fixing it as I'm about as useful as mohammed ali putting on lipstick when it comes to coding
)

The intelligence script is run during end turn processing, so a hung up player would not be caused by an intelligence event. The likely culprit would likely be some sort of endless loop that occurs when a certain sequence of events happen - which are probably determined randomly since it doesn't consistently hang on the turn. You'd have to be lucky enough to catch the hang when running the debug settings.

That's the problem trying to figure out what causes it. You get a hang, but it never seems repeatable!

I was getting a consistent hang on empire 6's turn. I still don't know which empire that was. I started a new game because I didn't like my starting location in the universe (I was in the middle of 5 hostile empires and 3 neutrals (which I absorbed), so I restarted. I've run it for 11.3 game years without a single hang. I seriously think it's an issue with one of the default races AI scripts. I may start playing in Debug to see if anything shows up if it doesn't slow down the game too much.

Capt, is this going to be a problem when the game is being hosted on PBW.cc? What will happen when this occurs on there?

There's been no reports of hung turns with the mod for a long time on PBW.

Is it a consistent hang or if you try to re-process the turn does it work fine with no delay?
